If you should "come under their crosshairs" the fact that you enjoy Jim Beam (a lot) is not really going to be a big concern of theirs. Or yours.

If you should come into their crosshair for what ever reason just by entering your name into the big computer in Dakota or wherever it is, then they will know far more about you from your purchasing history than what alcohol preference you have. eg;

do you own a gun
are you a member of online chat rooms like this
are you a member of a political party.

Perhaps you might like to spend a bit of time things about all the things they could tell about you just by knowing every things you have ever brought in your entire life.

Who wants to be that hacker to steal everyone's cash in a giffy that uses this system?

Or they could just ask people about you. At least then they might get information that is relevant. People sure have strange ideas on how things are done.

As for the OP, do people in Japan carry cash? I would have though they were more like the US where cash is rare.

Scary stuff indeed, and why tourists? I know some countries already do that, and have been in countries as well where facial recognition was used, and in some countries I have lived finger printing was compulsory as a resident.

But this just seems odd to roll this out to tourists in particular - why are they a target for this? Higher spenders definitely, and making it easier to spend cash, will hopefully encourage them to do so, but it still seems fishy.
