Metallacus, let's talk for a minute. It is likely impossible I can say anything that help will shift your perspective but it is possible that some reading here might be open to a better understanding and find that in my reply to you.

Would you reject your children if they were gay or would you have "not allowed that behavior nor encouraged it in the first place" and treated them like "freaks"? If so, you fail as a parent and your children are going to run away, live on the street, turn to alcohol and drugs and to survival sex work IF they don't just kill themselves outright. This is the plight of transgender children with parents that don't support them. 77% of transgender youth seriously consider suicide, 43% attempt suicide before the age of 20. There is a 93% drop in suicide rates among youth with strongly supportive parents. Which would you be?

If you wouldn't reject a gay kid, which is completely something different, why would you also not reject a transgender kid that needs some real support, love and healthcare from their parents? Being transgender is not a behavior, it is something kids are; boys and girls. The foundations of who we, all of us and everyone, are as people and our core personalities are based on gender and our own sense of which gender we are. Crudely illustrating that this sense of gender comes from between the ears, if your lost your male genitalia to an accident of some sort, wouldn't you still feel like a man? Would you "behave" any differently of feel compelled to put on a dress? That is your gender identity and your sense of being one or the other at work. Is there some outside influence that could convince you that you were anything else other than a man or in other words is what makes you a "man" all in your penis ?

Probably not and that's because as we develop in childhood, children become aware of gender around 2 and their own sense of which one they are is usually as fixed and unwavering by 4 or 5 as would your gender be as unwavering in the scenario above. Implied-implicit testing methodologies used on transgender children shows their sense of being boys or girls is of equally strong conviction as non-transgender children. Transgender kids are who they say they are.

Many parents of transgender children also share your attitude - can't happen to one of MY kids or not in MY household and are equally repulsed by the idea. Fortunately some parents also happen to love their children unconditionally and when faced with this will educate themselves to learn how to help their children and put their kids feelings, happiness, health and success above their own feelings or beliefs. No parent wants to face this and nobody wants to be transgender but it is real and it does happen. Support is available for parents and families and educators and organizations on how to best care for and affirm the lives of these special kids. It is not easy. It can be complicated and confusing and tear families apart and destroy lives. It's not a game and if you end up being a parent of a transgender kid, I hope for their sake your love and compassion for them wins.

The PBS Frontline Documentary: Growing Up Trans is a good place to spend an hour and a half examining and learning more about these issues and parenting.

ETA: The least we can do is let these kids pee in peace.

I am not criticizing people that are upset with the the bathroom issue. I personally think it is an issue that has been blown out of proportion, . .

How about you research the medical issues transgenders have - - - for trying to hold it all in - - - instead of just being able to use a bathroom.

And, Yes, they do need "treatment" - - - the right kind. The kind that helps them transition with support and self-esteem.

i am sorry i have no problem with gay and lesbian people i have friends that are gay but i do feel if you got a penis you should use the boys room and if you have a vagina you should use the ladies and hear is why. if you allow people to pick which room they want to use you are going to have a bunch of weirdoes who will see this as a free pass to get into the ladies room i have seen all kinds of crazy when i used to work at roses department store including guys going into the ladies and peeping on girls in the stalls needless to say those people left the hard waybeaten down buy the ladies and in handcuffs . i have no problem with homosexual men in the mens room with me i know what i like . i just feel if you allow it you will have perverts use it as an escape clause to do their thing. post surgery trans gender people are diffwerent they could use the ladies because they got fascimiles of the proper equipment
