I think the crowd reception to him has already dictated that he is a heel and like you said have Rollins return as the face would go over great.
It isn't even heel heat, though. Reigns hasn't progressed beyond the "Blue Chipper" Rocky Maivia stage of his career... McMahon is dead set on
jamming him down the fans' throats as a babyface, and the fans are largely disliking both the character and the push. Unfortunately, this type of
nonsense has been the WWE's SOP since they realized as long as little kids and parents LOVE John Cena, there's no need to turn a face that's widely
detested by the adults in the crowd. 20 years ago, the reactions Reigns has been getting would have facilitated a REAL heel turn, with Reigns being
escorted through the crowd by a phalanx of body guards, trash talking the fans, telling them he's their unquestionable heroic God even though he hates
them all, etc... and after mastering that aspect of his game, he'd organically become the badass face similar to the organic evolution of The Rock.
The way this crap is going, however, he's going to end up like Sheamus... a marginally talented big man who was mishandled early in his career and
forced down the fans' throats to the point where nobody really gives a flip what he's doing or whether he's active in the title scene.
I'll go out on a limb here and say SummerSlam will answer all questions. The most sensible storyline would have Brock vs Reigns on that card. If
Reigns wins cleanly, we're stuck with another "Super Cena" garbage character until Vince tires of it in 8-10 years and somebody new pops up. If
Reigns either heel turns or (really shaking things up) loses the match due to Dean Ambrose interfering, we may have something watchable.
Rest of WM (Only watched some of it here and there, so meh)
-The bump Shane took from the top of the cell was awesome. Hard to believe it's been 18 years since Foley's "As Gawd is muh witness, King, he's
broken in half!" mother of all bumps off the Cell and yet I still have to judge all HIAC matches off of that match's standard. It was an OK match,
but not the stuff of legends.
-Lesnar vs Ambrose: I love watching Brock wrestle. It's coreographed, but you just know he could legitimately break his opponent in half if he
decided to do so.
and the rest of the show lacked much interest from me...
