Syrian Kurds are preparing to liberate RAQA !!

Daesh must be really getting down on its luck.....
The combined forces of the rebels are fighting to close the last corridor into Raqa now....
Once cut off....Daesh/ ISIS will be eliminated basically at the Kurds leisure....
They are calling for co operation from the residents of the area in order to facilitate their advance.....

Paris (AFP) - Kurdish forces in Syria are preparing with the international coalition to "liberate" the Islamic State stronghold of Raqa, the leader of Syria's Kurds said on Thursday.

"The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are preparing with the coalition to liberate Raqa," Saleh Muslim told reporters in Paris.

The SDF are dominated by Kurdish forces.

Muslim, the head of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), added however that the fighters would need the support of up to 50,000 "Arab residents of the Raqa region" to take the northeastern town which the jihadists have made their base.

The sad part is that means Kurds will be fighting Kurds again soon. They have already had some incidents.

They need 50,000 locals to help them?

The Yazidi and the Syrian Kurds have almost come to blows as well. They are teaming up with the Iraqi Kurds and the Turks as of late.

Let's face it. All these ethnic groups to hate each other. The Assad regime took particular attention in his repression of the Kurds.

What's in this for the Syrian Kurds and why would they want to liberate Raqqa?

The Syrian Kurds have already carved out and area under their control, which they probably won't want to give back to Assad when he rolls up looking for revenge.

Okay but do you really think the Kurds are heartless? Bare in mind that a lot of Kurdish fighters are women, I would suspect that they would empathise with the plight of the of the Yazidi girls. This news is good and all you want to do is throw a negative spin on it, why?

Bottom line here, Daesh are gonna get crushed. Let's worry about the aftermath as and when...

Didn't you learn anything from the Iraq/Afghanistan / Libya/Arab Spring /Kosovo/Ukrainian/Georgean debacles?

Unfortunately even if they succeed I doubt this will be the end of the situation. We're dealing with seriously tribal mentalities here, and that is a dangerous thing indeed.

Remember, our nations have backed various factions in various nations over centuries, it's not unusual at all for the tribe we back to then turn around and start slaughtering other tribes in "revenge".

Suddenly we were the backers of the next AQ, the next ISIS, the next *insert acronym here*.

Now, the intelligent among us will now need to start thinking just as our leaders have thought in previous wars. Do we back the best of a bad bunch now to get rid of the greater evil and just hope that it doesn't all go sideways in five years? Or, do we back a group, but stick with them after the dust settles and attempt to actually get rid of those tribal divides and unify a country to prevent this sh*t from happening again?

The latter seems to have almost worked in Iraq and Afghanistan, but the idea that we can support a group to get rid of the greater evil and then just skip town is long dead. Once we're in there to get rid of the greater evil, we have no choice but to stick around and help clean up the mess and develop a stable country.
