Ancient Rome is Reconstructed in HD 3D Video Tour

I thought this was interesting.

I wish more HD 3D video reconstructions would be made of many other ancient sites, Egypt, Peru/Bolivia etc. They would give many a much needed newer perspective on how these ancient people lived and just how sophisticated many of these ancient culture and civlizations around the world truly were.

Did you know for example that in the remains the of Minoans they've found evidence of not only indoor hot and cold running water but also flush toilets? I'm sure ancient Greek sites and the later the Roman locations still have a lot to be revealed.

Roman Empire buffs, listen up! In 2014, a new piece of an ongoing puzzle about Ancient Rome was discovered. This piece is part of a huge map carved on 150 marble slabs that is sized at a whopping 60 x 43 feet. This is not merely a random picture slab, this is a map of various parts of the city while Septimus Severus ruled. First discovered in 1562, “Forma Urbis Romae,” is made of thousands of marble fragments and this newest piece completes the words “Circus Flaminius.” The map has recently been used for a 3D reconstruction of Rome at its peak of glory, and now we can understand even more about Rome and its layout from a first-person perspective.

Very cool. Caught wind of this a couple of weeks ago. Agreed that it would shine a new light on our history should time be spent into recreating historical environments in HD/3D tours.

There are plans to remove the main avenue bisecting the Imperial Forums that was installed by Mussolini. It will be interesting to see what is unearthed there since a proper excavation was not done prior to the contraction.

What always amazes me is not just how old these structures are but how incredibly beautiful they were. I've never seen a Roman structure and thought "nah, that's average". Their archictects and builders were truly skilled given the lack of powered equipment too. Just awesome, what an incredible group of people. Their armies weren't bad either.....!

Awesome Slayer! Thanks for posting this. I love these, and like you, wish they would do more of them. In some ways, it seems we really haven't progressed much since those times. In fact, it looks as though the Romans could have taught us a few things.
