It's a definite rip off of Utanapishtim and a great deal of Mesopotamian mythology. There is even a Chaldean version, which was before they were more than just a small priest caste and not even yet a nation. Everyone was doing flood myth's. It's the only consistently told mythology really.
But a myth nonetheless. Underwater pyramids sure are interesting though, and that is not mythology and not Mesopotamian but off the coast of Japan. Something happened.
