Kasich Rejects a G.O.P. Call to Quit to Block Donald Trump

Republicans desperate to stop Donald J. Trump from capturing the presidential nomination increased the pressure Wednesday on Gov. John Kasich of Ohio to quit the race, with Jeb Bush joining the growing number of party figures throwing their weight behind Senator Ted Cruz.

Mr. Kasich refused, saying that he, not the Texas senator, was the best option to stop Mr. Trump. But his argument was undercut by his dismal showings Tuesday in Utah and Arizona, where he won no delegates — as well as by the surprise endorsement Wednesday morning by Mr. Bush of Mr. Cruz.

It's one thing to say that the political parties have always picked the nominees. It's true but can anyone point to a time in history when the will of the electorate was being openly subverted like this?

How can the United States ever claim to other countries to be an example of a true democracy ever again after this farce by the GOP?

Republican National Committee member on nomination process: “This is the greatest hoax ever.”

Not to mention the democrats too:

I don't think there has been a real democracy at the federal level probably ever in the United States. But, the rigging and fixing is out in the open now to the point where I have to ask:

How can anyone believe the fairy tale that the United States has a real democracy anymore?

We do have a real democracy at the local level. The State level gets a bit trickier, depending on the size and wealth of the State (and the specific elected position in question). It's at the federal level where it gets weird.

Then again, political parties can select their candidates however they want and literally don't have to give voters a say in the candidate. That wouldn't be smart though, because it's advantageous to have voters passionately support the eventual nominee. Otherwise, it'll be harder to get the candidate elected in the general elections.

Kasich knows that he won't get POTUS, so if he keeps his nose clean, and supports Trump now in an antiestablishment way, then he may just MAYBE get to be VP.

Technically in America you're not a loser unless you come in last, anything above that still gets a ribbon.

Kasich is still in the race for one reason and one reason only. Under Ohio Law if he drops out his delegates go to the second place winner, which would be Mr. Trump. So if drops out Trump Get 66 more delegates is one step closer to the nomination.

Literally a month ago, Cruz was considered just as unreasonable of a choice to the establishment as Trump is. Now they are backing that horse. Lol. The GOP looks like a fish flopping around out of water trying desperately to get back in the water to breathe.

As of today, Cruz is in a statistical tie with Trump 38% - Cruz 35% nationally. Actually, Cruz scares me more than Trump. Where as Trump is just plain crazy, Cruz is also crazy with a twist. He believes his is a divine mission. Kinda like Dubya talked to God about invading Iraq..... and look where that got us.

You mean the very same Republicans who made Trump sign an agreement to represent the GOP and not go Independent?

So now he is looking to be the GOP nominee, they want him gone?

The only thing worse than this is another Clinton, the Queen of lies and God know what else,running for President.

Plus, I read yesterday that Trump is the second choice of Kasich supporters...so why would the GOP want Kasich to drop out to block Trump.

This story doesn't make sense.

I agree - and/or, potentially, he's hoping for multiple rounds of brokered convention - dropping out before then wouldn't help his chances, even if it is a longshot.

I hear this often, but people who say this...live in a vastly different America than the one I live in. Is it in rural areas, or a geographic segment that works like this? Where I'm from, things are far more competitive than they were when I was a kid. And I'm talking from childhood sports up through the adult workplace.

He took a large chunk of change from Soros... he will stay in to help trump get the nomination so the GOP implodes at the convention.

I see this everyone is a winner crap all the time. My kids play sports, my mom was a teacher, and even at work. As long as you don't come in dead last you get a prize, everything is given to people, who literally do nothing at all to deserve it. Children today are learning that you don't have to work for anything, all you have to do is ask and if you get told no throw a tantrum.

My mom wasn't allowed to mark wrong answers in red, or even give zeros for zero work.

I see the lazy good for nothings at work who are a danger to the patients and even themselves still get a paycheck.

I see temper-tantrums from more 12 years old than I ever want to see on a daily basis. Our children are being raised to be soft, and taught that they don't need to apply themselves for anything.

It doesn't matter, you can't lose. You may not get a trophy but you will still get a ribbon.

i currently live in a rural area, and have lived in also the city and the country as well.
I started noticing these things in highschool ( over 10 yrs ago, way way over 10 yrs)
