The simple reason for the long standing embargo is probably along the lines that Castro stole somebodies mistress. Old people have forgot the reason but press on with it anyway.

I don't understand why we never undermined the communist regime by introducing capitalism to them with open trade.

We could of had the Cubans themselves overthrow Castro decades ago.

Pretty much.

Its pretty much wrecked China's communist system as they are capitalists in all but name now thanks to trade with the west.

We are trying it with China and it seems we're the ones being undermined. Guess where all the jobs went.

Nope. We want to live like Scandinavia, Canada, and Australia. It works.

Oh, I see. Some socialist paradises are more equal than others.

You are one of the members who persist in trying to equate COMMUNISM to Democratic Socialism. They are not the same.

You know they are not; or if you don't, it's because you don't listen to or read anything intelligent; or, if you do listen/read you choose to ignore the information.
Every bloody time. Every day.

Here's a little pop quiz "fill in the blank." You'll need to call on your reading comprehension:

Trying to compare Cuba to Norway is asinine.
Canada to Cuba, also asinine.
Australia to Cuba, well - asinine.

Here is the quiz question: Comparing the UK to Cuba is ______________________.

***********************

Don't be asinine.

I believe the Republicans haven't forgiven Castro and Cuba for taking the world very close to nuclear war back in the 1960's in order to get those Russian ICBM missiles out of Cuba. Not forgetting the failed Bay of Pigs invasion.

en.wikipedia.org...

They're not going to normalize relations until Cuba becomes capitalist again.

Gop politics eh?

It was a democrat named Kennedy that started it.

It has been maintained ALL the way to current day.

Until little Mao wanted to make all 'besties' with Cuba.

That by the way hates the ever living hell out of the US.

Truth be told China should have never been opened up either.

Communist regimes people.

Cuba with a long history of blood shed.

Tell me who your 'friends' are, and I can tell you who YOU are.

Actually, to my understanding, Kennedy refused to allow a 'false flag' attack on Americans so the American war machine could blame it on Cuba just to start a war.
So he was shot in the head.

Operation Northwoods

Seeing the comments on several news sites and even twitter are the most ridicules i had seen about. The majority of American Republicans criticizing Obama on Cuba even if he plans on closing Guantanamo Bay.

These American Republicans who are criticizing Obama on Cuba dont seem want the relations between Cuba and the US to be normalized at all and there excuse?

Talk to the American Cubans

This is almost laughable because its clear what these American Republicans who are attacking Obama on Cuba want for Cuba. A military intervention and regime change.

It is to trash Obama, there is really no other reason.

This is the nature of current GOP politics. Despite running against public opinion in the US, World opinion and just plain common sense the GOP can not be seen to support the President in anything. You can thank the Tea Party for making the GOP into this freak show.

I think you're off on one thing here. You said they're doing this "despite" those things. That implies they don't want it this way. To be more accurate, I think it should read like this:

This is the nature of current GOP politics. Gleefully running against public opinion in the US, World opinion and just plain common sense, the GOP refuses to be seen to support the President in anything.

In other words, I think it's time we just accept that they agree with these positions.

Isn't the US pretty much the only country embargoing Cuba?

All the European countries trade with it. So far as I know, the Asian countries do, and I doubt anyone is stopping Mexico from trading with it.

So why does the place suck so bad? What exactly is it that we make in the US that is preventing it from flourishing? Last I heard, everyone on this site spends so much time whining about how all those other places manufacture so much more than the US does. So since we don't make anything here, how is our embargo hurting Cuba? Instead, it seems like they have the same disease that Venezuela does, and we don't embargo Venezuela.

Maybe, Castro doesn't want the embargo lifted because if it does lift, then he has no easy devil to blame for the all the woes his people suffer.

If Obama were to find an ironclad solution to abolish world hunger, or an efficient, unlimited, fossil free alternative energy source, and these programs would require zero dollars to implement, the Republicans would fight tooth and nail to sabotage it and would proclaim Obama is a terrorist sympathizer plotting to destroy the very foundations of Capitalism.

Also, it kills Republicans to think Obama might have a decent legacy. They will do anything to prevent it. They’ve spent the last 7 years doing NOTHING to help this country due to their obssession with Obama. It’s disgusting and destructive, but they don’t give a damn.

So, it’s a waste of time trying to use logic or common sense to debate issues with these jerks. Logic and common sense has nothing to do with their agenda. It’s also a waste of time trying to apply logic or common sense to understand the things these criminals do or say. Hell, these morons think Donald Trump will be their savior.

In reality, truth is stranger than fiction...

Of course we want normalized relations with Cuba. LOL What kind of idiot wouldn't want that?

We have normalized relations with almost every country on earth including adversaries like Russia and China and countries we were at war with like Germany and Japan. It's just propaganda that states that we don't want normalized relations. The Military industrial complex or people that can't get over the bay of pigs, yet forgive all the atrocities Japan committed on our troops and Germany committed against us or England committed against our great first president George Washington! They even burned down our white house once! And we have normalized relations with England. No sense.

Good post. Obama will be remembered as a good President.

Of that last Ten he ranks up right near the top. It's only mindless right wing propaganda that states that Obama has "ruined the country" "destroyed the constitution' "decimated our economy" "gutted our Military" "caused the downfall of our once great nation". None of which is remotely true. Although you would think that if you listened to talk radio or watched Fox News. But if you really research it...Our country is in great shape. Obama has been a decent president.

Good point. There are no quick and easy answers to dealing with Cuba.

But we seem to do it with the Middle East and they rape little boys as a way to relax and the US doesn't blink an eye.

We have bastards as allies. Granted, getting along with a dictator like Castro is disgusting, but currently, we don't really have any moral standards in the US.

We have a great relationship with Saudi Arabia. It would be hypocritical of us to treat Cuba less than they

The president could call for the dismantling of the IRS ... and the GOP/Republicans would try and block him.

I wonder how history will look back on his 8 years in office?

It'll depend on who writes the history books.
