To have your kids near you and treat them like that. Its beyond me.

Went for a nice long walk. It's lovely spring, or close enough, afternoon, so I strolled down to one of the local parks. Trees beginning to blossom, daffodils in bloom, squirrels playing...
Off in the distance a young father and his even younger daughter were, illegally, feeding those same squirrels. I had to stop and watch 'em for a little bit. Just to relearn that most fathers, the vast, vast majority, love and protect their children. They were having so much fun, that I ended up having a pretty good walk.
Plush Toy is Secret Signal to Sex Traffickers, Says WFLA TV . By buying a plush toy with a heart on it, Tampa mom Nicole O’Kelly unwittingly alerted predators that her little girl “is ready to be traded for sex.” Or so reports (if that’s the word) the station WFLA. Using a garbled mishmash of horror and hysteria, correspondent Melanie Michael told viewers that the toy, a pink stuffed truck recently purchased at a Monster Jam event, “held a sick secret; a disgusting calling card for creeps. The heart on the toy was a symbol for pedophiles.” Um…what? The heart within a heart, the reporter continued, is “a symbol used online by pedophiles.” While presenting no evidence whatsoever that the toy was made to be, or perceived as, some kind of secret signaling device, the reporter interviewed the toy-buying mom, who seemed as distraught as if her child had narrowly escaped a windowless van. “This is pink!” said the mom. “This is for little girls, especially at a predominantly male event.” Does the mom think the “male event” deliberately stocked up on pink toys that so that unwitting parents would buy them? And then predators would see the symbol, and go, “Look! A heart on a toy. This mom must be willing to sell her child into sex slavery!”? WFLA — and several other new outlets that carried the story — didn’t seem to care that this is the kind of storyline usually induced by certain mushrooms. It continued with a clip from a local detective: “It’s the most vile thing you could ever imagine,” said Pasco Detective Anthony Bassone. Bassone said the hearts are used for girls while a separate symbol with triangles targets boy

What a sicko! That is no Father, that is a monster! I am sure that will leave her emotionally scarred. Someone who was supposed to be there for her, someone she should have been able to trust completely goes and does that to a kid. Unforgiveable!
Star I do volunteer work with abused kids part-time as a mentor. The reason I brought this article to light on ATS is there is more of this going on than people think. This however, is an extreme case where a parent broke every law of trust, protection, and anything else a parent could do with a child.
Hopefully she will be able to forgive, (not forget) and move on with her life. She will go through lots of anger and hopefully she will have the support to see here through it.
Being that she is a teen makes things more challenging for her to overcome. Send her positive vibes she needs them.

I've done it, too.
Big Brothers and Sisters, and various other programs, usually through the auspices of places like the YMCA/YWCA, and the local churches all sponsor programs of this nature.
I don't do it as often as I used to, because as I've got older, I've gotten crankier. Not with the kids, never that, but with their so called parents...I tend to want to do nasty things to them.

It seems like he went way too far with it (claiming the fake boyfriend had killed themselves is a bit harsh) and he should have come out about it and punished her when she sent him the first pic. But I don't disagree with it as a means to a end - it seems like his daughter wasn't the type that would listen to a sit-down talk about why sexting is bad. IMO this falls under the same purview that parents have when they search a child's room and belongings if they think they have drugs - a minor has no right to privacy from their legal guardians.
But I agree he went to the extreme with this to the point it is creepy. He shouldn't have carried on with the whole charade after she sent the first pic, she should have had her cell phone confiscated and been grounded and lectured at that point.
I'm not sure what should happen here. I don't think he should be facing charges but I do think he is really messed up.
