Off in the distance a young father and his even younger daughter were, illegally, feeding those same squirrels. I had to stop and watch 'em for a little bit. Just to relearn that most fathers, the vast, vast majority, love and protect their children. They were having so much fun, that I ended up having a pretty good walk.

There sure are lots of wonderful fathers, and like I was saying earlier it's nice to donate a bit of time to show abused kids that not all adults are screwed up.

If you ever feel like doing something good, in the world, just for the sake of doing good this is a opportunity. Michigan has a great program called " Mentor Michigan".

Where do these ppl come from, who does that, sexualizing your own child, there is a built in something in most of us humans that make the very idea so repulsive one cannot even contemplate it, yet there are entire communities dedicated to this sickness.
I was about to make this into it's own thread, but we don't need more than one of this type of thread on the same day or wk.

You and I could probably write a book.

I am a Forensic SANE-A. The cut off age group for me is 13. I normally care for children starting at age 14, going up to adults, and senior citizens. I would really prefer the age group to start at 21 and above. I don't think I have the fortitude to care for children, especially infants, that have been abused.

I won't go into any of the nightmare stories I have run into as a SANE. All I can say is, "Just when you think you have seen and heard, the worst that is possible, someone always comes along and proves that evil has no boundaries."

Please don't take my post the wrong way, but very young children, the elderly, and the disabled, especially the mentally disabled, are prime targets, for abuse.

Look at the number of teachers that have been caught messing around with the students. Imagine how many haven't been caught. The same thing for mentors, and those who are in control of the life of others.

Not long ago I had a case of sexual abuse of a child with learning disabilities. The crime was committed by a person of authority in the child's life, and the person was employed by the State to care with children.

I would never discourage anyone from donating their time to provide abused children with a loving, normal, healthy, relationship. They need to know they are not bad.They need to know they did nothing wrong. They need to know everyone is not out to hurt them, and that not all adults are screwed up.

I just wanted to add that abused children are the most vulnerable, and as sad as it is, it is not just sick fathers, but there are numerous cases of abuse, where the most fragile of our children, fall victim to the betrayal of those that should be protecting them.

Thank you for the time and effort you put into healing our abused children. They definitely need you, and we need more like you.

Star I do volunteer work with abused kids part-time as a mentor. The reason I brought this article to light on ATS is there is more of this going on than people think. This however, is an extreme case where a parent broke every law of trust, protection, and anything else a parent could do with a child.

Hopefully she will be able to forgive, (not forget) and move on with her life. She will go through lots of anger and hopefully she will have the support to see here through it.

Being that she is a teen makes things more challenging for her to overcome. Send her positive vibes she needs them.

I think it's wonderful that you work with abused kids as a mentor! I will indeed send positive vibes and wish her much courage and strength, with love.

I've done it, too.

Big Brothers and Sisters, and various other programs, usually through the auspices of places like the YMCA/YWCA, and the local churches all sponsor programs of this nature.

I don't do it as often as I used to, because as I've got older, I've gotten crankier. Not with the kids, never that, but with their so called parents...I tend to want to do nasty things to them.

Big brothers and Big sisters, yes I know this program too and it's wonderful.

With age I know I have gotten much more mellow. I was mean as a snake when I was younger, but learned to channel my energies to constructive things.

I understand what abuse, neglect, and poverty are but I know it does not have to define a person. The children will never forget, but it can make them a stronger individual if they see those experiences, in life, as a stepping stone.

Changing those victims years, into an empowerment mindset is a delicate process , but it can be done.

Along with others, im starting to think the mother knew all about what the father was doing.

It seems like he went way too far with it (claiming the fake boyfriend had killed themselves is a bit harsh) and he should have come out about it and punished her when she sent him the first pic. But I don't disagree with it as a means to a end - it seems like his daughter wasn't the type that would listen to a sit-down talk about why sexting is bad. IMO this falls under the same purview that parents have when they search a child's room and belongings if they think they have drugs - a minor has no right to privacy from their legal guardians.

But I agree he went to the extreme with this to the point it is creepy. He shouldn't have carried on with the whole charade after she sent the first pic, she should have had her cell phone confiscated and been grounded and lectured at that point.

I'm not sure what should happen here. I don't think he should be facing charges but I do think he is really messed up.
