Islamic State Labs Create and Modify Weapons to be Used in Terror Attacks

On the heels of disclosing the huge data cache of IS contacts, Sky News published an exclusive on their finds inside an IS lab. The article is chilling in the description of the many tools the IS is making to kill those that don't share their beliefs.

Terror group Islamic State is employing scientists and weapons experts to train jihadists to carry out sophisticated "spectacular" attacks in Europe, while also modifying weapons systems capable of targeting passenger jets and military aircraft.

The modification and creation of "a homemade thermal battery for surface-to-air missiles" is particularly disturbing. Described is the 99% accuracy rate once their locked on , and the threat of these systems to commercial air traffic is mind-boggling.

"Terror Universities" are cropping up in ISIS friendly countries like Syria, Iraq and others teach and equip the Jihadists for their terrorist agenda.

This article and the 2 others linked go into great detail on bomb-making, training, and other tools of the trade employed by IST. After reading the series, I was left stunned and sickened at the future possibilities of killing civilians and innocents in the name of their religion. The thread I started a few days ago dealt with the press release of this acquisition of IS data, and as a result, authorities have ID'd their own countryman.

Dangerous to know that they achieve to obtain this knolledge.

They retain such knowledge among themselves and more to boot....They are not primitve tribesmen
riding camels and sorting flintlocks...
These are sophisticated and battle hardened warriors....in their way they are doing what darpa does for us....
I do get a kind of kick out of the novel ways they are coming u with to kill us though....

I did a little bit of quick research on Thermal Batteries. The main characteristics that need to be emulated by a terrorist replacement device are:
- high energy and power density
- ruggedized to withstand severe mechanical stresses of acceleration, shock, vibration and spin

Unless the missile requires the thermal properties of these batteries, I don't see why it's thought to be so difficult to find a replacement.

In any event, all of the technology discussed in the OP sources are relatively easy to build. And even a basic understanding of their opponent's defensive systems and countermeasures would lead a somewhat creative person to design and build them.

How could any intelligence agency believe that these mundane technological hacks are beyond the capability of this terrorist group? We have High School students in the US that could design and build stuff like this!
