After a (another) long plane ride from Asia, one of my colleagues and I got off the Swissair MD-11 in Zurich, Switzerland and boarded a bus for Interlochen. My wife (at the time) had come up with the idea, we would meet in Switzerland. No place was too far then.

The bus ride seemed to take forever, jet lag from Asia and all. I hadn't been back to the States in what seemed like eons, but no matter, this was to be fun.

Eventually we made it to Interlochen and checked into the hotel. It was great to see my bride, she meant the world to me.

We'd traveled through the night (possibly days), it was about 5pm. We went down to the lobby and they had some nice wine and cheeses (an aperitif I thought). We headed out into town to go look for a place to eat "dinner".

I learned a lot that night. Dinner in Switzerland was long gone. Lucky, you might find some snacks, even at the best places.

I've skied Jungfraujoch from top to bottom, under the face of the Eiger; I've traveled up inside the Eiger, but I've learned; if you want "supper" in Switzerland, you better get it early.

For what it's worth though...the fondue is superb!

Just another memory...from the edge.

So did you ever find food or, after seeing your bride, was food not so important?

Not being the world traveler like you I googled the locale.

Did you go to the Sphinx Observatory? One of the highest in the world with the second highest observation deck?

So the internet tells me...

No, but I stood atop the Eiger and looked out over the world below, windswept and dim in the light of the setting sun. Below, we would ski, down the mountain, in the afterglow of the day.

Food seemed but a distant memory. I stopped at one point and took pictures of the face, ice falling away and tumbling down, but it was growing dark and time to go down.

That was so eloquent and filled with imagery. I wouldn't mind having wine and cheese and snacks for dinner.
