A guy I know is a flat earther and someone on facebook suggested he went on a cheap flight to see for himself that the earth is not flat. No joke this is a copy and paste of his reply....

we see what we believe (or have been led to believe) take an easy jet ride without your filters. the glass windows on planes are curved, so you can't go by what you see. if aeroplane glass windows are concave, then the image you see outside of the window is distorted.

According to MATHEMATICS (remember, you want us to deny our eyes and rely on the numbers) the curvature would not be visible at any altitude occupied by commercial airliners...what is your point?

You realise there are countless mathematical ways of proving the earth is round, from right here on terrace firma, right? I won't go over them again as I can't back arsed to get into this pointless topic too much. Plus other, more patient members have already listed them and explained them.

Yeah. I am not asking for all of them though, am I Copernicus...I am just asking you to accept the one indicating how high up we humans must be in altitude prior to actually seeing curvature...Really...Just print that one...and then explain why I have a picture of the Chicago skyline on my crappy smartphone camera from over 20 miles distant in NW Indiana...do not let the door hit you in your arse on the way out.

Disdain and contempt? You are arguing for flat earth. No one is showing you disdain and contempt. They are showing them to the idea of a flat earth.

Really, if you are going to argue (badly) against the earth being a sphere then grow a thicker skin and stop whinging when people put you in your place.

I'm not indulging you in this idiotic topic

Allow me to rephrase your statement so to fully elucidate the readers:

"Yes, I did demonstrate disdain and contempt. totallackey asked me for a simple math equation and I am butthurt because I am the one who was actually put in my place. I am losing this argument and I do not care now if the door hits me in my arse on the way out. The nerve of some people to test my knowledge on this subject by asking for a simple math equation... I am taking my toys and going home."

Yeah...that sums it up quite nicely...

No they are all wrong. The Earth is not round or flat. It is cube shaped. I know this how? Err ahh because it just is see.

But on a serious note who cares if some dimwitted person thinks the earth is flat? Did they go to the edge and fall off?

Seriously? You think im losing the argument that the earth isnt flat?

All the answers have aready been provided in the last 6 pages and the other pointless FE threads. By the way, ive read your posts before in other subforums. I know exactly what your game is. And i aint playing.

thankyou for that eloquent demonstration that you have not infact read the OP of this thread

further :

Neil says it is an oblate spheroid, shaped more like a pear. See any photos from NASA that are shaped like a pear?

please tell us what the eccintricity of the equitorial and polar diameters are and why you believe that this should be discernable in a photograph

Yeah...that sums it up quite nicely...

lets actually address the point ATS member " nonspecific " actually made shall we :

we see what we believe (or have been led to believe) take an easy jet ride without your filters. the glass windows on planes are curved, so you can't go by what you see. if aeroplane glass windows are concave, then the image you see outside of the window is distorted.

that quote from a unidentified " farcebook aquaintance of " nomsepecific " is what you cropped

why did you activly avoid addressing this ???????

my inclination would be :

because the flat earth delusion of " airliners have concave windows - to distort the view " falls apart when you actually look out one while the plane is still sat at the terminal .

so much for you honesty , integrity and scientific literacy

actually - why dont you actually explain your alledged " chicago skyline " pic ?

pertinany questions include [ but are not limited to ] :

is navy pier visible in this aledged image - if not why not ?

how many days / year can this pic be replicated - and why ?

the science of inversions - both superiour and inferior is well documented and understood

and actually falsifies the flat earth " argument " as the existance of such inversions is dependant on local weather conditions

if the flat earth claim was true - chicago should be visible at any distance from the shores of mitchigan , in the absence of mist , fog , pollution , precipitation or low cloud

I come in peace.

Hello, ignorant_ape(or 3danimator or anyone else), I would like to formally challenge your beliefs.
(because you are the op and you put so much time into something many people call ignorant, stupid and a waste of time)

Do not be angry or rage filled, I mean you no harm. I have a list questions for you:
(questions that are of the up most importance to my contribution to this thread)

Yes or no

1. Has science ever been wrong about an idea or theory pertaining to the earth and universe?

2. Do GoPro cameras bend or curve the image/video it takes?

3. Can anyone really setup an expedition to the Antarctica Continent? (If so show me, because i have tried)

4. Has anyone ever traveled across the entire Antarctica Continent?

5. Explain please and thank you. What makes you so sure that there is not any faulty ideas or errors in the heliocentric model?

6. Why have we not been to the moon again?

P.S. I am not trolling. If you do not wish to answer my first questions, then i will not response after that with any seriousness to the topic. To me picking and choosing parts of one's post shows a lack of interest in said topic. So if that is what you will do don't waste your time It's pointless.)

(Disclaimer - I neither judge or feel hurt butt when others judge me.) POP4LIFE

Now that that's out of the way. My view on the matter is.... on the fence.

Lately I have been leaning to the flat side of things on this argument. (I like to debate, its a hobby)
Now I am no geologist or astronomer, but i fancy wisdom. To be honest nasa has been looking like a bunch of fools as of late. With all of the half truths and hidden information (lies). So its only natural to doubt someone who lies. Am i wrong? There are so many theories and models of the earth and solar systems. Most act like there are no errors in the present day models and ideas. Though there are faults in many of those things. (Pluto comes to mind) So until we as a race reach the technology for space travel. I am not counting out the flat earth theory. Just saying. All signs point to the earth being round but all signs pointed to pluto being a planet.

Be > than close mindedness.

Did you read the opening post?
In particular, point #2 made by the OP.

Can you explain how the elevation of Polaris can correspond to your latitude on a flat Earth?

With all of the half truths and hidden information (lies). So its only natural to doubt someone who lies. Am i wrong?
I don't know. That would depend on what lies you're talking about. Can you be specific?

All signs point to the earth being round but all signs pointed to pluto being a planet.
The word planet is nothing but a term for a type of body in space. No longer calling Pluto a planet does not mean it is not a body in space. I don't really care, if you want to call Pluto a planet be my guest. But calling the Earth flat is silly. Unless you believe it, in which case the only word would be ignorant. Willful ignorance.

1. Yep. It's called science. We get it wrong sometimes and we correct ourselves. Your point?

2. Yes slightly.

3. Yep. Anyone can. I don't know the links but i have read enough polar exposition books to know you can. (I'm kind of obsessed with the Arctic and Antarctica)

4. Yes. Some non foot. Some alone. Some on skis. Some on motorbikes. There are countless books on all these expositions. They walk from the edge to the south pole. You can also go on holiday to north pole on a Russian ice breaker.

5. Because we can predict everything from tides to the position of pluto based on this model. And it all correlates with what we see. Therefore it works. If practice backs up your theory...then that's a good sign your theory is correct.

6. It's expensive. And there is no need to send humans there again. You heard of the space race right? The cold war? That's the only reason we went there in the first place. They spent the equivalent of over 100 billion dollars in today's money to go there. Nasas budget is a fraction of that these days. No none can afford to send men to the moon just to walk around when a rover can do the job. And the moon has been mapped to a very high degree by the Americans and Chinese.

As for nasa looking silly...really? They just sent back stunning pictures of Pluto...something I've been waiting my whole life to see. That probe is also on its way to its next target. Have you heard of Nasas Cassini mission? In my opinion it's the most successful mission since the Voyagers. If you chose to be ignorant, that's fine. But don't say silly things like nasa are embarrassing themselves.

Ok..I answered your questions..i just have one for you.

Please list the proven nasa list and false info of which you speak.

but thread

got under my skin - and i had 2 choices - this thread or ripping someones head of and shoving it ip thier own arse

you got this thread

EDIT TO ADD :

there are quite a few flat earth threads - i might link a few more of them to mine - and see what happens

If that thread got under your skin, then take a peep at this link. At first I thought it was a joke, but whoever published all that stuff appears to be a real true believer that the earth really is flat. . The mind boggles.

They only kept lions in Rome? A short trip by boat as well. If they wanted to see someone chewed bad enough on Saturday night, I am pretty sure they could arrange for transportation directly to the kitties pen.
