Bill Clinton Strolling in Polling Place: Did He Violate Mass. Election Rules?

Former President Bill Clinton was seen greeting voters and shaking hands in a polling location. If he was electioneering, or discussing the campaign with potential voters, it is an ethical and legal quandary. CNN's position is he did not violate state laws:

Slick Willy got wrong directions to an intern party and just played it off.

He will be found to not have done anything wrong, or be found to have done something wrong and punished with a slightly stern warning. (Along the lines of "You shouldn't have done that. It's bad.")

Of course, he was obviously in violation of state law, but since when did silly little things like "law" mean anything to a Clinton?

Does it matter? Laws are only for the little people if You haven't noticed.

The Clintons have little use for such mundane concepts as rules, they have crossed the lines so many times without being held to the same standards as ordinary Joes like us. I can picture Hillary screeching at Willy for the misstep though.

I would say at least it is an ethical breach. But then that should come as no surprise.

State AG says he didn't do anything wrong and voters were warned days in advance that he would be showing up and when... but still. Why? People just want to go and vote and get on with their day. Jerk.

Clearly breaking election laws. But its a Clinton, laws apply to the little people, not them.

Seems a lot of other people agree.

The Change.org petition, started by a Chicago-based Bernie Sanders supporter Wednesday, charges the ex-Commander in Chief with electioneering within 150 feet of a Massachusetts polling station, a “3rd degree Voter Violation Felony.”

According to Massachusetts election law, “[N]o person shall solicit votes for or against, or otherwise promote or oppose, any person or political party or position on a ballot question, to be voted on at the current election… within 150 feet of a polling place.”

Thanks for your post. Mass. AG may have to revise his position that there was no wrongdoing when faced with social media posts showing Willy's actions. It's not being discussed, and dismissed by many as not important. It is important in that it's another example of "laws apply to the little people, not them".

This is MA. They do what they like there. Voters have actually passed laws (I specifically remember one concerning taxes) and the legislators ignored it even though they have no choice in the matter. The corruption in MA is unreal.
