Motley doesn't even make the top 25 lists I've read.

They've sold over 100 million albums. Over 70 million of that was before digital downloading and internet piracy.

Yeah. Not a metal band.

They're classified as heavy metal under genres.

That may be but they're not Metal , they're rock , they were Glam rock back in the day.

Glad to see them call it a day , sad to see them go.

I've actually noticed a lot of rock/glam rock being classified as metal nowadays. Kind of takes away from the real metal bands.

I'm sorry you think that way. Motley Crue certainly had a harder edge than Led Zeppelin in the guitar tones although Bonham hit harder than Tommy. Take Nikki's first band as an example. London was glam rock, notice how they rock and not metal.

Nope, just cannot agree with this one. I first saw these fools April 1, 1983 opening for Kiss and they sucked gonads then and still do. They can't retire soon enough for me as I wish they had never existed. They also never were nor ever have been a metal band.

I saw Anthrax two weeks ago(they killed it) and will be seeing Iron Maiden tonight(so very psyched!) so I do have a clue about what metal is and MC ain't it.

They certainly had the heavy metal look with the long hair and leather. I rather enjoyed them back in the day. I think Black Sabbath was one of the first heavy metal bands I was into.

Yeah, my mistake. I should have worded that differently. They were a popular band in their day, and I like some of their songs, but I have never seen them in top 10 or 25 lists in metal. I've always thought of them as hard rock. Fine line there. Either way, my intent was not to belittle them. Without them, we wouldn't have "girls, girl's, girls" and a few other fun songs.

I was 10 when Dr Feelgood came out. I somehow got my hands on a dubbed copy and all hell broke loose. I know there are tons of groups with more talent in the classical musical sense but these guys were some hard rocking bad assess in their prime. I have them as #2 80s hard rock group, just behind GnFnR. I listened to them way after it was considered cool and I occasionally still do. Mary Go Round is my favorite Crue song ever. Take a listen for nostalgia sake. Rock on!

No way. They are not even true metal. Glam died out in terms of metal. It did not evolve like heavy metal. Jesus dont get me started. Check out the first three albums of Tiamat for example.

I'm not sure who classifies them as such, but I have never once seen their music in any heavy metal section of any music store. They're always under "Rock", which is where they belong, because they are NOT metal.

What entertainment isn't fun? If it isn't fun then you can't call it entertainment.

Motley Crue doesn't have any less talent than classically trained symphony musicians. I can assure you that Mr. Mars could compose a proper classical piece like the best of them but the truth is he doesn't want to compose. Mick's roots are in country music and good old fashioned rock & roll. And have you heard Sixx:AM's first two albums? There's some progressive stuff on there that would've never worked with Motley Crue. Mick Mars is currently working on a solo album and it's probably gonna be similar to Motley Crue's self titled album. Far from classical.

You can't evolve partying and sex. Partying and sex is the same as it was 312 years ago.

Hmmm prefer Meshuggah and Slayer but I agree with the guy that said Sabbath, they have to be the most influential by a long way.

Sound and style can't evolve...? Well then....anyways, what Mustaine said.

I've never seen anyone compare any of the members of MC to classical musicians. Know why? Because it's a logical fallacy.

Your opinion is not fact and I seriously doubt you would know what progressive music actually is. No matter what I say you are going to think what you want but don't expect to start a thread like this and not get some heat.

Hell, everything they wrote was just second rate Sweet as they pretty much ripped off every Sweet tune ever done. They weren't even original. They were just clowns.

More than wonderful but the sound quality was lousy. Most likely not their fault, it happens in a crappy basketball arena.

Their touring schedule baffles me. Ft. Lauderdale, Tulsa then Vegas? Who does THAT? Then they go south for a month and they play MSG, Tacoma, (REALLY?), Denver then two in LA.

Biggest band in the world and they are playing Tulsa and Tacoma. I cannot think of anything logical for their tour schedule in America but it is what it is considering they fly themselves around. Not a normal way of doing things.

No hard feelings. I know exactly what I'm talking about. Not everyone is trying to push the limits of musical scoring. It's like, these 100 folks are all wealthy. 61 of them spent $400 on dinner last night while they were out but these 20 wealthy people over here went and spent $10 on fast food.
