LENR Breakthrough!?

The Martin Fleischmann Memorial Project, a respected and cautious effort to develop a repeatable unambiguous demonstration of a new source of energy production formerly called "cold fusion" and now most widely known as "Low Energy Nuclear Reactions" has posted a cryptic "teaser" on their site:

The MFMP (Martin Fleischmann Memorial Project) is open sourced and has conducted open experiments for over three years with crowd sourced funding. They have openly reported many failures to accomplish their goal of developing a "kit" which demonstrates a source of energy which defies all current scientific knowledge. This announcement that some breakthrough of significant proportions will take place on Wednesday might well be the beginning of a new era for humanity. But we have been disappointed before. All said, however it is quite remarkable that they have published a teaser with these implications. It is well worth following for a few days!

Every time though with these things it's an announcement of "more to come".

The respect I and billions would have for the one who just says, "hey! here it is!!!".

Just do it.

I'll keep an open mind and hope for the best, but this just seems pretty stereotypical for this kind of thing.

You nailed it. History repeats itself, over and over:

The Keely Motor

Sounds familiar, right? Eve of success, just need a little more funding and then the world will be saved by this new technology. In 1886 they said it would be ready in three weeks. Some people are still waiting for it even though Keely is dead now.

The death of Keely didn't stop his hoax nor did the Death of Fleischmann stop his, shall we call it, "scientific error".

Does cold fusion exist?

Fleischmann and Pons admitted that their biggest claims for excess heat were from projected work that had never been completed. ...

Cold fusion is impossible. It contradicts all that we know in nuclear physics, and no concrete evidence, theoretical or experimental, has ever been forthcoming. No single working device has ever been demonstrated, and there have been no explanations for the shortcomings in the work of Fleischmann and Pons or later followers. The only journals that publish papers on cold fusion today are pro-cold fusion journals, which seek to promote the field, rather than critically examine it. Cold fusion is a dream, a golden promise of a world with unlimited energy and no pollution, but a dream nonetheless.

Well I don't know if it's impossible or not but it's hard to argue there's any concrete evidence for it. All the evidence so far is under a shadow of concerns about experimental error, and Fleischmann admitted errors in his experiments.

They claim to have measured low energy gamma radiation, which is curious, kinda matches Rossi E-Cat claims.

The question now is, whether this can be replicated.

Low energy gammas? just how low? we talking photons? Gammas tend to be very very easy to detect, as are photons.

Was the announcement the E-Cat thing? I thought it was going to be about the experiment you linked to. Tried to follow the blog post but just ended up more confused since I haven't been following.

Dissapointingly, not so much a breakthrough result but rather confirmation of a 2004 observation of gamma radiation rise upon start-up of the e-cat.
