Which TV shows or Movies sent you down the "Fringe or Conspiracy" rabbit hole if any?

I think I remember that book! I have a vague memory of talking about it in the 3rd grade, late 80's. I doubt they would allow such a book in school these days.

For me it started with general sci-fi interest but really got peaked by working with someone (and then befriending them) who was a full-on conspiracy theorist. Like the kind of conspiracy theorist that I would probably deem 'taking it a little too far' (hollow earth theory, spaceship moon theory, etc.). But, this over-the-topness did allow me to entertain that way of questioning and through opening up, some of the more plausible conspiracy theories seemed believable. Or at least worth spending some imaginative time pondering.

Oddly enough, now that I think about it, before that some of my first remedial conspiracy ponderings were not within the plot of movies, but more that they surrounded certain movies. Like the Poltergeist Curse, and the conspiracy theories about The Shining (although now I think both of those can be chalked up to coincidence & falsehoods).

And of course in real life, there was Watergate (and All the Presidents Men).

The ones that I remember are "In Search Of," "Unsolved Mysteries," and of course "The X-Files."

But I've always been interested in mysteries and conspiracies and the like, so I'm not sure if those shows got me interested, or if I gravitated to them because I always questioned most things in life.

I'm sure that there were other shows that contributed to it, too, like "Quantum Leap" and the 'what-ifs' that shows like that introduced to my life.

"Fried Green Tomatoes".

My wife was watching it for the umpteenth time so I started digging into conspiracies instead of stabbing a fork in my eye.

I've never heard of that (it's a few years before my birth, let alone my TV watching days)...god, it looks like some fabulous mid-70s cheesery!!

I had a few unexplained mysteries books when I was a kid, used to get a UFO/Paranormal magazine too (can't think of name right now) and always borrowing weird paranormal books from the library.
Also used to get Weekly World News when I was a kid too

In terms of TV it would have been The X-Files, Outer Limits and Twilight Zone...Sightings too.
Pretty much any programme about Loch Ness, Bigfoot, UFOs, Ghosts... ANYTHING like that I'd watch or record.

Better than Fantasy Island or the Love Boat

There are really too many to choose from.Sci-fi movies from the 1950's,
The Outer Limits,Twilight Zone,Lost In Space,Time Tunnel and Star Trek.

I've always leaned towards the weird stuff, horror, fantasy and alien movies/stories etc, but when I was a kid, there was a few things that grabbed my interest that wasn't a movie etc, one was a comic/magazine type series called Spinechiller, told supposedly true stories and unexplained mysteries but in a format for kids. The other was a TV programme about unexplained paranormal things etc called ''strange but true?''

I'm joking actually.. trying to get into the chit chat spirit.

But that said.. some of those episodes get a 9.5 on IMDB. That means there probably is something that strikes a chord in people.. and it never hurts to watch something like that (or maybe I just want to be able to claim that I've gotten the mighty Slayer69 hooked on MLPFIM).

Started with books for me in grade school as well. While others didn't venture any deeper than the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew, I was reading all types of Paranormal, UFO, cryptozoology, and Ancient civilizations. Anything Horror related I had to have. As for TV shows.. Unsolved Mysteries is a given. Perhaps not too many remember this oldie but goodie... PSI FACTOR

Easy for me. I've always been into it, but I never knew just how far the rabbit hole went until I got hooked on the X-Files. It got me actually researching these subjects much deeper. That, and of course the emergence of the Internet.

I even went back and watched Kolchak, the Nightstalker (as X-Files creator Carter said it was his inspiration). Since then, I've gone way deeper than I should have (too late now), and I sometimes wish I didn't know just how far we are all kind of screwed, LOL.
