The western politicians are given Directorships of companies, Directors fees are non taxable, so if you are a good boy you will prosper. You will only have to turn up and smile, if you can be stuffed.

No, that's not it at all. When politicians and civil servants retire, they often end up on boards of directors. Any remuneration they make doing that is taxed. Politicians who wish to continue their careers can be hired to make a speech of some sort and get paid for that. It is also taxable, although there are naturally dodges like having the fee go to a non-profit "foundation."

No doubt he is taking advantage of money making schemes as they all do. Look no further than the USA and it's elected officials (congress and senate) who have all become millionaires since taking office. Is it good or correct, no; it is just the way this present world works.

Seems like a lot of business/financial know-it-alls disagree with you. It does appear though, that nobody can actually prove it, and Putin denies it, although he owns yacht's, palaces, etc. Interesting. I can't seem to get the first link to work, and it is the one with all the picts of all the grand things he owns.

There's a pretty big difference between Putin and US officials. Conservative estimates place Putin's net worth in the tens of billions of dollars. JFK is the richest US president with a net worth of 1 billion dollars. In terms of modern US presidents Clinton wins with 55 million. When was the last time you saw a US president arrest one of the richest men in the country and then acquire his business for "the state?"
