I just wanted to ask if somebody could give me some tips what I could make better, improve or add to my homepage and how I do it. I still got a lot of work to do.

You may want to use frames, and have the menu in a menu frame, since it's on each page anyways....

The text for the Message Board is pretty dark against a dark background. Admittedly, my monitor here at work is pretty dark, but light text would work better on a dark background.

That's about it, nice job on the site, at least from what I've seen so far...

Looks quite cool Panther.

The message board is a bit dark on my monitor.

I'd cut down the amount of forums until you have more posts and members then add them as you site becomes more popular.
Cut the ones that cross over.

screen size resolution. there's nothing I hate more than having to scroll to the left or right to view something on a web page. the best thing is to set the default resolution at 800x600 and then go from there.
just my personal opinions though

Well the layout still needs a lot of work. Make it a little more profesional looking. As for using frames.... I dont like frames. All the better websites dont use them so I dont see why yours should.

but still disagree on the frames...

Not a title and menu frame, but just a menu frame...

Ok thanks guys. I started messing around with Photoshop to make it look a little more realistic but I think I'll have to read a book about it because it's not a "learning by doing" program in my opinion. I'll change the message board color right now. Screen size resolution: Yeah I got a 17 inch monitor here, and a 15 inch one and your right, it is very annoing so I'll work on that.
Thanks for your tips
Sincerely

switch website hosts...
tripod and the entire lycos network is becoming more and more unreliable and has too many ads.

move your files to members.freewebs.com...
and use www.uni.cc... as your url redirection. (yourname.uni.cc)
they don't force any ads.

a good program for beginners is Microsoft FrontPage, it's what you would call a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) you layout how you want your site to look, and it takes care of the coding. Or you can use Netscape's Composer which is free. It's not quite as powerful as MS Frontpage the last time I used it. A good program, and a little more advanced is Macromedia Dreamweaver. Frontpage likes to put in it's own html and while it will let you edit the code directly, doesnt always like what you're doing. Dreamweaver let's you put whatever you want into the code. Your site is coming along nicely though, keep at it.

If you want to really get into it, and you have a broadband connection, you could host your own site off your pc. I do mine, I pay 7.95 a year for the domain, and have them point their name servers to a free DNS provider, and I also do my own mail, ftp, etc. Check out www.diywebserver.com... and www.dslwebserver.com... , they'll walk you through step by step and what you need to do. They also gover the pros and cons of self hosting. They also have great support forums if you get stuck. good luck

I used Frontpage before but I thought it was too easy and not challenging enough. Now I'm using dreamweaver and it is challenging enough

Yeah i would deffinately move to another server. You shouldn't have to fight those pop-ups, there are a bunch of free hosts with just classic banner ads.
I used 20megsfree.com, but I believe they use pop-ups too these days.

About the lay out, you just have to experiment with different colors and styles. I think I have had 5 different lay outs on my website in just 1.5 years...

btw, the Future tech link it dead...

Yikes!!! Lose the red in the forum. This can trigger migranes in many people.

Cut your picture file size to 250 to 300 pixels. allows faster loading. I hate waiting for pictures. Limit the number of pics per page to cut down on loading time.

Personal opinion is, I prefer arial for the copy on my pages. I think it is easier to read.

Other than these things, I think your site is great.

you also have to keep in mind different browser types. While I may have to scroll over in my IE, I might not have to in my Netscape for Linux, or Konquerer, or Opera, or Mozilla, or the other 800 browsers out there.

p.s Dreamweaver kicks mucho buttox

Your site looks pretty good. Stay away from frames. That annoys the hell out of everyone. Your site loads fast and is easy to navigate. My only suggestion is more content.

I use Dreamweaver for my HTML. It is excellent.

Haha. Nice to see you here. Please obey the posting rules. ATS is a way better site than either Metatus or Hicow was.

Frames can be really handy, if implemented correctly.
It speeds up a website a lot, since you won't need to download the menu all the time.

If you really want to learn HTML, I suggest you buy a book on getting started with html, and write your pages with notepad.
