Colony...I Watched the Pilot

I watched it yesterday and saw the ad here on ATS today. Was so glad to see josh Holloway from 'Lost' and Sarah Wayne Callies from 'The Walking Dead'.

I first saw it here while browsing IMDB. There is a link there to watch the pilot, free.

It started out a bit slow, but the suspense was killer leading to a fairly good explanation of what was going on in the end. There is also a game associated with it at here You need Chrome of FF or IE. It would not let me use maxthon to play.

It's dystopian and action and drama. An awesome mix. It's been picked up for 10 more episodes. It's on the USA network.

I recommend a watch!

eta: There is a party scene near the end that reminds me of "The handmaid's Tale" (my av is from a ballet version of that novel).

Set in the near future, Colony centers on a family headed up by Holloway and Callies who must make difficult decisions as they balance staying together with trying to survive. They live in L.A., which has been occupied by a force of outside intruders. While some people have chosen to collaborate with the authorities and benefit from the new order, others have rebelled and suffer the consequences.

I saw a preview for the show last week and thought it looked interesting. Now after reading your review, I am really wanting to watch this, for I am a big fan of dystopian stories.

Would you say it is 1984 type dystopia or a Fallout type dystopia?

We've been pondering giving it a look see since there is currently nothing else on Thursdays that we watch.

Never hear of it, looked it up. I'm hooked already and i haven't seen it yet.

What is the attraction to you all with "dystopian" story lines?


How do you 'not' find such things depressing? Or do you not mind depressing 'entertainment'?

I ask, because I find that real life (and the real life possibility of a dystopian future) is plenty depressing enough - I sure as heck don't want that kind of thing in TV, movies, or reading material...and my daughter (she's 17 and I'm 52) feels the same way.

So, if anyone in this thread feels like explaining the appeal of such 'entertainment', I would be interested in understanding that...

Just my opinion, but:

For some, it may be because after watching it, it makes one feel that the life they have no is not so bad. Makes one appriciate what they have and understand how much worse something can be.

For others, it can be the idea of now mater how bad things get, one can strive to survive and live.

Looks promising , I had high hopes for some of the other shows released this year like limitless and minority report but I just couldn't hang on with them.

Hopefully , this will be a keeper.

Been watching the Colony, and it doesn't impress me.

A little backstory would have been nice.

That guy had another series called 'Intelligence' that was canceled. I expect the same fate for the 'Colony'.

After watching the first few episodes, I'm disappointed. I had high hopes for this series. Too much information given away too soon. While other parts of the story line are being too drawn out and I'm really wondering how they plan to play them out. I'll keep watching, and hope it gets better. Even "Lost" lost me after awhile...

Actually Im feeling this, the Colony is Iraq or Afghanistan with Californians playing the part of the occupied complete with insurgents and collaborators, we assume it's an alien presence behind the collaborators indirect rule with non of their boots on the ground they use us as proxies in much the same manner we are doing in those nations ,which in real life would be the U.S government it took me 5 eps to figure it out, the series is putting us in the role of occupied Iraq and Afghanistan with our super embassies complete with green zones.

I'm a few episodes in and can't say how I feel about it. It's confusing for one. It's like catching it in the middle. There is zero backstory on what's happening. They could at least have flashbacks or something. Also, they keep talking about their "hosts" but if they were invaded, the invaders would actually be visitors, wouldn't they? What the hell were they invaded by, anyway? Aliens? Another country like in Red Dawn? I'll stick with it for a while. I hope things are clarified soon or I might stop watching.

You can back watch from the beginning if you stream it on line, like tube plus or netflix. give it a shot it's worth it so far,
