What happens after death? :D

According to books by Michael Newton, each one of us has a soul that goes to the afterlife after death.

Also, Mr Newton talks about soul groups, and that each one of us pick our birthdate, our parents and our bodies

The minimalism of your thread gives me nothing more than a name of an author. Absolutely no input from you; too lazy.

Since this was such a low effort thread, I'll give you a low effort answer.
No one really knows and anyone who says different is full of sh**. Read all the books you like, it's still just an opinion.

There are some interesting stories of near death experiences and people seeing things they shouldn't have been seeing when they were dead. Like people in other rooms and seeing what they were doing and hearing what they were saying. Many, compelling cases.

I believe we are souls living in a physical body and once that body passes on, we go on to some place different, someplace better.

Hopefully, nothing.

Yeah we all read the T&C daily it's like our own personal koran. The OP has been on less than a month and you admonish him for not knowing every rule of the site. ATS is the only site I know of that has these stringent rules and some are questionable at best. So how about giving the OP a little latitude instead of coming down on him like a ton of bricks.

I agree. That's why so many people refuse to make threads or even comment in them, because they are put down so easily and quickly.

This is actually an interesting topic - we'll all find out the answer one day and it would be intriguing to find out how many of us were right and ended up where we expected.

I have a couple of pet theories - firstly that I'll end up where I expect to be until I am ready to move past that stage and onto whatever the 'real' reality is. Secondly, that I already 'died' at some stage in my life and that this is some sort of Purgatory where I just carry on as usual until I am ready to accept that I'm really dead and 'move on' to that 'real' reality.

Best option is that this life is just a dream I'm having and when I wake up it's all over for the lot you

Seriously, it's a thought. Can the World really carry on without me being in it?

How much do you think about all this OP? Did you decide yet what's the most likely thing to happen to you?


Edit to make clear - those aren't my original theories - just my favourites of the many available.

I think there's nothing. I think I'd prefer to be wrong but it just seems ridiculous to me that any part of you can exist in a coherent & conscious form after death.

It always throws up too many questions for me and they never can be answered with any sense of satisfaction. The obvious questions are things like:

1. If we, being part of the natural animal kingdom - and in no way better than any other creature on this planet, do they have a 'soul' too? If not, why not?

2. At what point exactly along the chain of life, is it decided that a lifeform does not have a soul? Ie:, does an Ant have a soul? If not, why not?

3. At one point were 'souls' 'developed'? If a soul - eternal existence, then it makes sense that 'we' as 'souls' have somehow, always been here, so why wait 13 billion years to occupy a body? Doesn't make sense, and what were we doing all that time and where were we? And if 'souls' develop at birth, then they have a beginning and therefore must have an end/expiry date - which renders the whole point nonesensical.

I have many, many points, just logical questions, If there were any evidence to suggest it, that would be a wonderful thought but I have to go by what is most logical and I'm more inclined to believe it's all a load of nonesence

I personally believe in soul groups.

When I experienced a past life memory, a few people who I knew growing up, and have since met were in that dream,
which makes me seriously believe in soul groups..

Long story short..
In meditation I asked about reincarnation, then I had a dream about my last lifetime and how I died, and who was there.
Some of those people I did not meet until a few years after the dream.
It also explained an irrational fear I was dealing with,
and was exactly what I had asked for.

But yeah, it was a memory I relived in a dream.
I got to see how I died, what I was doing,
and interestingly enough,
when I was around 10 years old I had a premonition on the exact spot I had the memory about many years later in a DREAM.
Look up Dr Brian Wiess sometime and read about his explanation of this type of phenomenon
(He also has some very good books and videos and is a very nice guy.)
It all is some strange stuff, and I don't base my life around it, but it is something that I do believe to be true,
but then I also leave open the possibility that I am totally off my rocker and enjoying it.

That's a good explanation, I am not one to believe people are off their rockers if they experience something, I probably wouldn't come to the same conclusions but I absolutely believe people experience things, like NDE's for example ( in keeping with the thread ) I believe they experience them, they are real enough for the individual and they can bring about life changing behaviour.

That said, I always question why people suddenly jump down the road of an afterlife, there's probably a vast number of as-yet-unexplained phenomena which I think will slowly be answered through science over the next few years/decades.

I haven't read any books by him ( Brian Wiess ) but I have read a lot, watched various things etc. I wouldn't come to my own conclusions through arrogance and ignorance, I am open to anything and have looked into it more than the average person I guess. If there is something, I would guess it is nothing like what people perceive it to be. It would have to be beyond comprehension, beyond physical reality and beyond the limitation of the human senses but reading NDE's, this is not the case, they always seem to be experiencing the NDE from within the limits of the range of senses. Sight/Sound/Touch/3D movement.

As a small example, some say they 'heard' what was being said by surgeons........How is that even possible without the biological way in which we decipher sound? Even if consciousness was not a physical property, other human sensory experiences are: They require a brain in order for them to be 'decoded', if they were to be experienced somehow without the brain, it's impossible that those experiences would be 'decoded' in the same way as they would WITH a brain. It would be a different experience and a whole new reality but what people describe during NDE's are biological experiences when they should be something ineffable.
