An active shooter has been reported at Arkansas State University.

The school's Twitter account posted the alert.

The shooter, a male, was reported at the school's student union.

Another tweet sent by Arkansas State at 1:48 p.m. said an individual with a weapon has been surrounded by police. No shots have been fired and there have been no reported injuries, according to the tweet.

Reports that he crashed his car before exiting with a gun.

Not clear of the crash was intentional or an accident.

Tired of this. As a father, I'm thinking if making the kids study online is an option to consider.

I agree to this. The whole active shooter thing is becoming a bit of a misnomer. A guy walks into a bank and pops a shot off before demanding money is not an active shooter, but the media will call him one. Active shooter connotes the intention to kill several people, at random (more or less), it shouldn't be bandied about. Context is important. The term is feeling a bit Orwellian in that sense lately.

Frankly, I'm really surprised the online education option hasn't been more actively pursued. There's no real benefit to "going" to a bricks'n mortar school anymore. Think how much air polution would be reduced if students could simply work online!

They need to advance the idea that everyone with a gun is just ready to blow off and kill everyone. It'll help people think those guns need to go.

Which there does not appear to be, and even then they do not explode, the escaping gas ignites but there is no explosion.

Thanks everyone for staying on top of this, I'm at work and am in and out of the office so can't sit and watch for updates to occur.

Here's what I'm seeing as the latest:

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette published a photo of a pickup truck with an American flag flying from the bed, saying it was the suspect's vehicle. The pickup is seen stopped near a walkway and by a paved area with tables and benches.

The Jonesboro Sun reported police as saying the suspect was armed with a shotgun and had two propane tanks in the back of the pickup truck./ex]

unless he has them rigged to explode with something to cause a spark inside the take, but ya just shooting them will just make them fly off as the pressure is released.
hope they can diffuse this without anyone getting hurt.
