It came to my attention in a recent thread( Link ) that there is a lack of knowledge here on ATS with the basics of the most influential aspect on our climate. It's not surprising considering that almost every major environmental organization refuses to acknowledge it's existence.

We are all familiar with rising CO2 levels and with COP21 going on right now in Paris, I figured now would be a good time to bring it up.

The major factor in climate change today is the livestock agriculture industry.

This isn't true but it's not insignificant.

If we truly want to tackle climate change, we need to address the elephant in the room that environmental organizations, governments, and climate scientists for some reason refuse to talk about.

Refuse to talk about? Really? Just read IPCC AR5/WG1 Chapter 8. Look at all the influences the scientists talk about.

Yes there have been vast herds of large grazing animals in the past eating grass across the planet. I believe that the feedlots which are feeding grain based feed to livestock in high concentrations are the ones they base the figures on. This is misleading. Cattle should be fed on grass which is their natural diet. They do produce more methane when fed grains which they can't process fully. But livestock are carbon positive when they eat grass because carbon is stored in the ground as the grass roots die back when cows munch the plants off. Vast quantities of carbon gets stored in the ground this way. Carbon gets tied up in the bodies of the livestock as well. Nutrients and minerals are returned to the ground in the dung and urine which makes the soil more fertile. This the natural way of things.
So the conspiracy here is the misrepresentation of the facts by the left who carry on their persecution of farmers. Without livestock you have no food. Digging up the ground to grow crops is not the natural order of things and destroys the soil.
