Donald Trump's statement that Muslims should be banned from entering the United States "disqualifies" him from being president, the White House spokesman said Tuesday.

...For a White House administration to so heavily weigh in on an opposing party's nominating contest is a highly unusual step.

Earnest noted first that every president must take an oath to "preserve, protect and defend" the U.S. Constitution, and thus, he said, Trump would not qualify.

...The GOP front-runner on Monday released a statement calling for the U.S. to refuse entry of foreign Muslims. His proposal was met with widespread criticism, including from several candidates in his own party.

White House: Donald Trump Muslim plan 'disqualifies' him from presidency

My opinion on this news article is:

Trump is done. His rhetoric is absurd.
Today on NPR I was listening to how the other GOP candidates, and the Republicans in general, are backing away....

Donald Trump has faced a torrent of criticism after releasing a policy proposal that would ban all Muslims from entering the United States.

His fellow Republicans haven't held back: Marco Rubio called it "offensive," and Jeb Bush called it "unhinged." A number of others — politicians, pundits, experts and regular folks — have called it unconstitutional.

Scholars, however, are hotly debating that last point because many say the Constitution gives Congress a lot of leverage to decide who is allowed to enter the country. Some constitutional experts we talked to say Trump's proposal was clearly out of line with the founding document; others say at least some parts are on murky legal ground.

"Almost all of what [Trump] is saying is stupid," Akhil Reed Amar, a constitutional expert at Yale Law School, tells us. "Much of it is un-American. But some of it is constitutional."

Trump so far has released very few details on his policy.

Looks to me like the party (the GOP) is ditching him.

Yesterday (Sunday) I was listening to A Prairie Home Companion and there was a faux Trump interview where he said he was saying the most outrageous, insane, offensive, wacked things he could think of to NOT WIN ....
that the only reason he was even running is because he made a 'bet' with someone....that he would lose...
and now he's trying really hard to make sure he does.

But, people keep voting for the guy.

Anyway - that's all I've got.
What do you think, ATS?

This can't be real!

Like him or not, America can't sink this low to "disqualifying" candidates.

So, you can be president as long as you play by the "rules"?

There is now way (like it or not) this is going to go down this way. Is this America still?

Hmmmm, his plan may be unconstitutional, but there is nothing in the Constitution that disqualifies Trump's legitimacy.

His big fat mouth is making him illegitimate anyways.

Keep on keeping on.

I'm sorry? I think Trump is absurd.

But

If the people want Trump, then why can't the people have Trump?

If people like what he says, they'll vote for him.

If they don't like what he says, they wont vote for him.

I thought America was trying to spread democracy to the rest of the world bomb by bomb? Now the administration is looking to subvert it?

What the hell would people say if, as a random example, Putin's Kremlin, during an election cycle, stopped the only successor that looks to deviate from their overall ideology from running?

hah, i doubt it.

I can imagine a large % of Americans spitting out their big macs as they wave their guns in the air screaming

'' damn right BAN THOSE EVIL DOERS ''

The powers that be are scared of Trump - you only need to watch FOX NEWS to see it.

Well Obama surely has done enough to disqualify him from being in the WH.

The president cannot just disqualify someone because he doesn't like what the person says.

Remember that in this country we have freedom of speech. This was a part of the foundation documents of this country so people can says what they want about politics.

It doesn't mean you have to agree with him, but he can say what he wants.

Starred your post for participation....

but...I'm not sure I get your point here.

The "bomb by bomb" thing is a huge issue right now.

Folks, my point was more about how even the GOP contenders are denouncing him. The Republican party is turning away from him.
That's what I'm trying to get at....its not just the WH....it's the entire Congress. From what I can tell.

I don't know how this is going to turn out - I just see that it's at a boiling point.

Trump is TPTB...

A puppet master put down the puppets to join in the fun in 2015...

Mark my words, if elections are rigged by the "illuminati", Trump will win...

Bush and Clinton be damned...

They'll put one of their own before one of their stooges.

Edit: Unless Bush Sr gets an illuminati veto for his son.
Like a legacy builder, and numerological significance of 3 to the Elite...

*i went off the conspiracy deep end years ago, I just don't show it on ATS often*

Reading this was the first time I've thought seriously about voting or Trump.

But, yeah, he's just another monkey in the big zoo.

AAAAAAhahahahahahah..

Thats rich coming from this administration. Besides the 1st amendment protects his right to act like an ass. Ironic they deny Trump his rights while trying to argue from the point they chose.

I think that the more the old establishment media and other propaganda outlets attack Trump, the more he is popularized and supported by average Joe voter.......if political mouthpieces keep this rhetoric up, it will soon get to the point that there will be no real competition for POTUS and it will come down to a simple fact of either he will win in a monumental landslide victory, or he will be assassinated.

Tbere was absolutely no way in hell Hillary could win office before Trump came on the scene. But here we have Mr Mini Hitler opening his loose mouth of land mines every other day, by the time the primaries are over she's going to look like Mother Theresa at the end of it all (and yes, implied misunderstanding of Mother Theresa's actually true nature is intended) since her public image is what is remember by 90% of people voting.

I honestly thought it was impossible for Hilary or Bush to get into office a few months ago, now, totally plausible.
