That is more than enough information to make us stop considering charity this "manoeuvre".

And why exactly do we allow this BS to continue?

40+ billion could feed, clothe, and house a lot of homeless for quite some time I'm sure, or accomplish countless other charitable acts.

Wish I could say I was shocked to find that some rich beyond belief prick is doing this to benefit only himself all the while getting credit and praise for his seemingly good deed.

Despicable piece of filth!

HAHAHAHA, so we should TAKE that 40billion from him right?!?!??!? Hell yea!!! Feed the poor!!! He's rich!!! Screw him!!!

LOL.

The only thing despicable is you and the 28people who starred your post.

He came up with an idea, he monetized it because people are narcissistic and love a platform that lets them go "LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME" and he turned a massive profit.

He doesn't owe you, me or anyone else a damn thing!

Where exactly did I say it should be taken from him?
The only thing I think should be taken from him is the taxes he should owe. You know, like the rest of us poor bastards.

My problem is that he's being praised as if he was donating $40 billion to some cure for cancer organization and he's some sort of hero but he's not is he?

No, he's donating it to his own charity to avoid paying a pile of taxes.
Then he'll use that to buy other profit generating investments.
Rinse/repeat and the next thing you know he's among the rest of elites owning a pile of assets and manipulating politics.

How many of us "little guys" get to pull off s#%t like this?
Very few if any.

No one knows yet.. let's wait and see. The operative words being "could.. might.. etc." They may also donate a hefty portion into charity. The funny thing is many will insult and berate them.. because heck, they might only donate at the end of the day, 1 or 2 billion to charity. But sadly, mostly don't even donate $1.00 to charity. Dollar-to-dollar, people are not willing to do what they are complaining about someone else not doing. Or might not do.. we don't even know yet.

Of course, if it turns out they only use it as a tax and profit shelter, I'll be terribly disappointed. But if they even actually only donate 1 billion to charities.. it's a win. Who cares what people think of them?

Hey look, I'm 100% for closing tax loopholes in the USA, but let's be honest here. You and I would do the EXACT same thing.

And ultimately at THAT level, you pay PLENTY in taxes in one form or another! Plane? Helicopter? Supercars? Mansions, etc etc They are all taxed.

Despite what the OWS would have you believe, the top 1% in this country pays over 50% of all tax revenue generated. It's generally just through sales taxes since they consume much more than we can ever dream.

Even when you just look at INCOME tax, which is where the super-rich famously avoid taxes any way they can, they STILL account for over FORTY PERCENT of federal income tax revenue.

So lets all get a little perspective before we break out the pitchforks and torches here guys!

In the old days they called it "transferring assets into a trust" to weasel out of taxes, and nobody thought it was charitable. Now it's a """donation""". Hey Zuck, where's the "Chutzpah" button?

Click "LIKE" if you want to have the social appearance of being a noble person! Easier than doing something for real!

At least the Gates and Rockefeller foundations are actually charities. Even Gates wasn't sociopathic enough to fake it.

In the Renaissance in Italy, various charitable associations & Church organizations had their participants and donors dress in hoods and identical clothes so that when they were literally helping in the hospital and feeding the poor, they were anonymous and unrecognizable, so they couldn't do this ostentatiously for public status and acknowledgement, but performed actual charitable works because it was the moral thing to do.

zuckerberg did not unilaterally develop the tax evading LLC strategy all by himself (as an earlier poster said about the super wealthy being super-smart)

the same 'Advisers' that schemed the LLC tax escape ploy are likely very much 'attuned' to the CIA's list of needy organizations that will grow from the 'gifts' the Zucker LLC will be handing out over the decades

Mark, imho, is just the fortunate Front-man for the CIA created Face-Book phenomena...which was developed as an all consuming matrix to track & forecast individual & group behaviors/trends/paradigm shifts in attitudes of the 'domesticated Herd Mentality'... (a spin-off from DARPA)

Zucker-Borg is not much more than a cog in the scheme of things, lets be realistic... besides his family deserves the remainder 1% ~ $500 million for being a Target/person-of-interest for so-long already

just wanted to publicize my own unique perspective of the unfolding drama.....if we were in a hot-cold game, it would be another Arctic Express blowing through the ATS mindscape...tsk-tsk

I completely support his decision to avoid taxes and ensure the money is used how he and his heirs see fit. He is responsible for something that, while I personally am not on it, is used and enjoyed by the majority of people. It's a pity that citizens need to devise clever ways for not having the government take the money they earned/made.

No human being needs 40 billion. It's just absurd. What is that 40 billion going to trickle down to? Exotic sport car engineers, mansion builders, and high-end wine brewers?

People forget that this capatalistic society is still a society. I think it is a problem when the richest 20 people in america own more wealth than the bottom half of American population combined.

Are we going to keep supporting any way the capatalist system swings if it ends up turning into a feudal system?

Are we just going to trust the ultra-rich to do what is best with a majority of the wealth? Cause you know.. That has always seem to go well throughout history....

But you know.. blindly supporting any form of capatalism is cool. You guys saw the wolf of walstreet right? Screw everybody over to get rich. It should be the country's motto.

It should be pretty obvious to everyone when, after all of these rich people have "donated" soooo much to "charity", and yet nothing changes.

We still have tons of homeless people everywhere, people who can't afford much needed healthcare, people starving and without clean water or electricity to heat their water in many parts of the world, people so desperate for money they join ISIS, or they sell their body as a sex worker, or they commit various crimes, people with no hope are turning to drugs for a temporary escape from the harsh reality that the people who have the power to change things just don't care about anyone or anything that does not benefit them.

Everything Changes LYRICS
SOJA

[Verse 1]
What do we really need
In this life?
I look at myself sometimes
Like it's not right
People out there with no
Food at night
And we say we care, but we don't
So we all lie
What if there's more to this
And one day
We become what we do
Not what we say
And we end up in
All the # that they're in
And roles are reversed
And it was different
And we were the ones
With nothing to eat
And we were the ones
With blood in our streets
We were the ones
With only our screams
And they were the ones
Just watching on TV
We were the ones
Broke down and torn
With our life on our back
And our wife in our arms
And they were the ones
Like damn that's so sad
We were the ones
Like

[Hook]
Nothing ever changes
It's the only thing I know
Nothing ever changes
I'm looking down this road
And nothing ever changes
No, nothing ever changes

[Verse 2]
Look at your dreams
And your intention
How selfish it is
For you to mention
Turning your thousands into millions
Marry a model
And you have some children
Well they've got their dreams too
I imagine
Like water that won't
Come back to kill them
Sleeping at night
Without a murder
In some little town
You've never heard of
Now look at your nightmares
And all of your worst fears
Your car and your house
And your girl
And it stops there
All these things
You can't imagine losing
Like oh no
What if that happened to me
Well what you've got
They'll never have
To be like you
To have your chance
To be like you
Before they're gone
Oh, no!

[Hook]
Nothing ever changes
At least that's how we act
Like nothing ever changes
Like God has got our backs
Like nothing ever changes
I'm looking down this road
And I can see this pain, yes
It's only gonna grow

[Verse 3]
Maybe we need more
Shoes on our feet
Maybe we need more
Clothes and TV's
Maybe we need
More cash and jewelry
Or maybe we don't know
What we need
Maybe we need
To want to fix it
Maybe stop talking
Maybe start listening
Maybe we need
To look at this world
Less like a square
And more like a circle
Maybe just maybe
God's not unfair
Maybe we're all his kids
And he's up there
Maybe he loves us
For all our races
Maybe he hates us
When were all so racist
Maybe he sees us
When we don't care
And it's heaven right here
But it's hell over there
And maybe the meek
Will inherit this earth
Cause it was written before

So everything changes
Nothing stays the same
No everything changes

And if you feel ashamed
Maybe you should change this
Before it gets too late
Maybe you should change this
My brother, we're standing at the gate

Everything changes, changes, changes
Maybe you should change it, change it, change it
Everything changes, changes, changes
Everything changes

It's his money to do with as he wishes. Is it Zuckerberg's fault we aren't all billionaires? Do you realize that if everyone pitched in a couple dollars, we could solve a lot of problems? No, it's only the rich who have any social responsibility to everyone else, isn't it?

If everyone pitched in a couple of dollars??? Damn, almost half of my salary goes for the better of others. And i'm by no means 'rich'. Isn't this enough??

The problem is not that we don't pay enough, it's just that our money is soooo mismanaged. If you ran your wallet like our elected officials do, you would be bankrupt in about 2 months. That's why any amount of money have little chance to resolve problems at a large scale. But as we all know, the law is the law. (unless you have enough money to bend it your way)

And I understand it's his money, but is this a reason to evade taxes? Why doesn't he give his share like all of us do? If i get 45% of my salary and all other gains seized by the government, i want him to be accountable at 45% minimum on every penny he makes, EVERY. In the end, what difference would it make in his life?? He have so much money he wouldn't be able to spend it all even if he wanted it.. (figuratively speaking..)

Peace out.

He does owe his fair share in taxes though, just like you and me. Rich scumbags are the ones always able to find a way to skirt taxes when they can afford it. Even if he cashed out his 45 billion, his tax may end up around 15 billion leaving him 30 billion. He couldn't even spend that fortune if he tried.

To tell you the truth though, I'd rather see him actually give it to a worthwhile cause like those in need, the homeless, the hungry, the sick, whatever, rather than the government anyways, but what he is trying to do is avoid paying either.

yes if only all of us could create a way to brag about who we were sleeping with in school and then figure out how to use it to sell users info to advertisers we could be rich douches too.

I'd put in a couple dollars if the rich would put in twenty dollars. This quote is from www.ips-dc.org... :

America’s 20 wealthiest people — a group that could fit comfortably in one single Gulfstream G650 luxury jet – now own more wealth than the bottom half of the American population combined, a total of 152 million people in 57 million households.

"This report exposes the extreme wealth concentrated within the fortunes of the 400 wealthiest Americans and compares this wealth to the much more meager assets of several different segments of American society."

I'm sure the report doesn't even account for all the money hidden away.

Then you have the endless apologists for the greedy ultra rich. If you say one word about increasing taxes on the rich, then you're a marxist.

Let the feudal age begin!

Thats part of the shell game though. He isn't worth 40 billion. Facebook isn't worth 40 billion. The gates foundation isn't worth the 30-40 billion it claims either.

What they do is take the magical 40 billion, and they invest it into other companies, and they earn returns on it. I think gates earned ~4 billion in 2012.

Now, if they had to sell their companies, to get that initial investment as a liquid financial instrument (e.g. money), it would be worth far, far less. Imagine either of them selling off 99% of their shares in the company? It would tank. By the end of the day each share would be pennies on the dollar.

Whatever the valuations on any company are, its only worth as much as you'd get in bankruptcy. And that isn't much.

So the real ruse is being able to spend the book value, the net value of their assets and treat it like liquid capital, invest that and earn every year without having to pay capital gains. Sure there's a small amount they have to put into 'charitable' activities, but this can be a plethora of expenses, paying themselves and other family members, trips (private jets), mansions, office buildings, staff, etc, etc, etc

Just imagine all the things you could write off with a bottomless check book.
