Spontaneous abortion is a very common experience for women it is

estimated between 25% to 50% of conceptions result in one.

I feel dumb right now! I clicked on the link not sure what spontaneous abortion was - then realized, "miscarriage."

Eh, still...I can't imagine that having an abortion wouldn't affect a woman emotionally at least. Can women really remove themselves so far from the fetus to have no emotional attachment?

It's a heart wrenching, painful decision. Maybe there's a few cold, heartless beeyatches that actually don't care at all. But as I said before, is THAT who you want having a baby anyway? I knew a girl in college that decided to give the baby up for adoption....then smoked the whole time. What a selfish ho.

Most women would LOVE to keep the baby, but KNOW that they can't afford it. KNOW they don't have any help, KNOW they can't handle it on their own. And the thought of just giving it away is too painful....because they WANT to keep it. So, have the equivalent of a pap smear way early on and that frees up the woman's body, life, and resources to better herself and get in the position to be able to have a baby at a later time and give it the life they deserve.

And as sad and upsetting as the decision may be, they know it's better than whatever alternative there was. So, they may not be HAPPY about the whole situation, but they can find peace in the fact that they made the right decision, for them, at that time.

Right up to the 1960's prior to abortion being made legal there were

very many deaths (painful deaths) due to back street abortions.

And young women even up to their early 20's who found themselves

pregnant and had neither the money or information as to someone who

could help them, were sent to "Homes" (I say that loosely) where they

did menial work till they gave birth.


Two weeks after giving birth they said goodbye to the baby which was

then taken to another room and given I suspect may even have

been sold.... and then they were sent home as if nothing had ever

happened to continue their lives.

Now you tell me which is more traumatic - loosing a few cells

OR

going through 9 months pregnancy as a skivvy, giving birth, getting

to know and love that baby and then forcibly having it taken from you

and never seeing it again. And some of these women were not teens

but in their early 20's.

*Philomena* with Judy Dench and Steve Cogan. I highly recommend it

for an insight as to how things really were!!
