Okay, I'll bite. What made you arrive at the 8% theory?
Why is the number 100 important? Remember, a counting system based on 10 is mostly just a cultural thing - some ancient people used a 60 base system,
which in some cases is actually better than the 10 base. So we could very easily have maintained the 60 base; we just happened to go in a different
direction.
Almost every religion and ideology is based on the concept of human existence being somehow important. In reality, the chances of life developing on a
planet is very slim, considering the precise conditions required. Intelligent life is even more unlikely. Billions of years went by before we entered
the stage, and the universe unfolded just fine without us, and will continue to do so long after our sun farts out and our race turned to dust -
that's if we can beat the predicted 9,000 years humanity has left. So far our only major impact on the Earth and/or universe has been negative. We're
not only rapidly destroying our own environment and causing another mass extinction, but we've also managed to litter our surrounding outer space with
huge amounts of debris from satellites etc.
How can we be considered important in the grand scheme of the universe if all we've managed to do is screw things up? Any conscientious deity or alien
whatever would no doubt be more in favour of getting rid of us than encouraging us to keep destroying everything in sight and thinking we're all high
and mighty in the process.
