A team from the Pontifical Institute of Archaeology have discovered the burnt remains of a young woman whose body was unceremoniously dumped into a
pit which was then covered in heavy stone slabs.
Philippe Pergola of the Pontifical Institute believes that the woman was considered a danger even after her death.

The young lady, dubbed " Witch Girl " is the second "witch" to be found at the site in recent years.
In 2014 Philleppes team ,whose team are excavating the complex of San Calocero in Albenga on the Ligurian Riviera, unearthed the body of a
13-year-old female who was buried face-down,staked to the ground with a brick lodged in her mouth.
Evidently she was also thought to be dangerous.

Where these unfortunate young girls the result of a injustice ?
Where these women the wrongly persecuted by a uneducated society ?
The answer to this is more than likely yes, but to play devils advocate lets examine whether there is any actual evidence that real Witches existed
.
In 2001 engineers unearthed a buried 17th century witches cottage which is believed to be the home of one of the infamous Pendall Witches.

The remarkably well preserved cottage came complete wit its very own witches familiar,a mummified cat.

Also In 2001 archaeologist Jacqui Wood discovered evidence which she reluctantly concluded was result of 8,500 year old pagan ritualistic witchcraft
paraphernalia which included what is believed to be an actual witches cauldron.

So not only is there some evidence that witches where real but they used cauldrons and kept familiars , just like the stereotypical image of
Witches from the fairy tales or Halloween displays.
All that is missing is the broomsticks.
Can you guess what they did with them ?
It is speculated that 15th women would cover broomsticks in a type hallucinogenic mold known as ergot and then shove it up their vaginas.
This is believed to be the origin of the witches flying on a broomstick tales originate .

So I propose that Witches did actually exist and not only that, they lived up to there modern stereotype.
They kept familiars, performed rituals using cauldrons , and they used to "ride magic broomsticks"
