I don't know if the following has a more official source to confirm it as I find only secondary news sources, news pages that I cannot confirm. However I thought it might be of interests to post it then see what we can pull out of it.

The United Nations Security Council has called for “all necessary measures” to fight Daesh Takfiri terrorists after France presented a draft resolution to the 15-member council calling for a war on the terror group.

The French-proposed resolution, which was adopted unanimously in a Security Council meeting, calls on all countries to “take the war on terrorism” to Daesh-controlled territory in Syria and Iraq and destroy its “safe haven,” the council said in a statement on Friday.

The statement also warned that the Takfiri group “has the capability and intention” to mount further deadly attacks like the ones it launched on Paris and Beirut last week. It added that the threat posed by Daesh would make all regions and member states, even those far from the conflict zones, suffer.

www.presstv.ir...

The source comes from the iranian PressTv and is quoted widely from other online sources. The only one I could find that is close to the above, is from yahoo news which seams to quoted from AFP

United Nations (United States) (AFP) - The UN Security Council on Friday authorized countries to "take all necessary measures" to fight the Islamic State group in a resolution that won unanimous backing a week after the Paris attacks. The measure drafted by France calls on all UN member states to "redouble and coordinate their efforts to prevent and suppress terrorist attacks" committed by IS and other extremist groups linked to Al-Qaeda.

French President Francois Hollande welcomed the adoption, saying the resolution would "help mobilise nations to eliminate Daesh" (IS), which has claimed responsibility for the attacks that left 130 dead in Paris.

Looks like my search wasn't that effective at first because more I looked, more official sources I found. Below is the news from Daily Mail:

United Nations calls on all able countries to join fight against Islamic State

The United Nations Security Council has called on all able countries to join the fight against Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria and Iraq and redouble their efforts to prevent further attacks by the group.

The 15-member council unanimously adopted a resolution drafted by France in the wake of a series of deadly attacks in Paris, claimed by IS, which killed 130 people.

"The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as Daesh), constitutes a global and unprecedented threat to international peace and security," the resolution said.

This is our "hyper-turbo-quick-like-a-cat-need-it-yesterday "mode. Imagine if we intended it just "over-night" mode.

World war 3 started with oil in the industrial age and was finally ignited by 3 idiots who were POTUS.
Remember these days, people will ask ,and GOD knows what they will call the truth.

Why does Saudi Arabia get to head a council on human rights when they engage in the same practices as the Islamic State?

The UN is a happy show for public consumption on the surface. If it were really used the way a world body of all legitimate governments should be used, to air grievences, seek aid from larger member states, it has the potential to be something of world importance.
But keeping only the "winners" of World War II as the permanent members of the Security Council says a lot about the body and their agenda.
Security issues should be voted on by representatives of the entire world first.

UN Security Council unanimously approves war on Daesh

Should read, 'war on Syria'.

The rebels will be collateral damage, the state of Syria must go.

As far as bombs on ground…

This isn't World War 3, either. Sure China just gave the okay, but they're relatively uninvolved.

World War needs more regional action. Say if China got bold enough to fire on ships in the South China Sea to start a Pacific conflict.

This is war centered in the Middle East. Taking place entirely in the Middle East with attacks taking place sporadically in other countries in retaliation.

China, like Russia, has a potentially troublesome Muslim minority.
There is scope for a Muslim v non-Muslim line-up to the world.

am I correct in saying Daesh is focused on mobilizing the indigenous, home-grown radical of Muslim faith in their own homelands rather than being an 'invading army' group of fighters...
I think Daesh is instrumental in fostering operations like the recent Paris attacks and the soon coming Brussels ones

Daesh is separate from IS or ISIS even ISIL just as the 'Army of the Caliphate' is unique from those other groups, but they are all Islamic militant-Jihad

Unless Indonesia and Pakistan decide to defend countries that share their religious identity, then no...
It will not be a "muslim vs. Nonmuslim" line up.

And I doubt that will happen.

Don't pass your own ignorance to the situation on to others.
What you clearly don't know is that this is an ideology that differs from one group to another, the only thing they have in common is that they are all mentally deranged extremists.

They're all basically sects of the same death cult. Some want to take over nations and inflict their ideology on others, some want to make their own state in existing nations, some want to simply kill all non-believers.

The name of them makes absolutely no difference, all we really need to care about is that they are deranged and need to be stopped.

They have not "declared war".
The UN Security Council voted to "redouble efforts" against terrorism. This is nothing more than a piecemeal statement designed to give the world the impression that they're actually doing something, when in reality they're just as paralyzed by bureaucracy as they always have been.

Each nation is making its own decisions about their fight against terrorism, the UN just feels the need to make a statement of "solidarity" when there is really nothing they can do without holding ten meetings to decide on what biscuits they should have at the meeting they need to decide which countries will be involved in the meeting they need to have to decide how much they should all be paid to attend a meeting about...

You get the idea.

Probably the same reason the idiots at the UN unanimously agreed to go to war against an ideology.....because they're idiots. Which incidentally, I thought they did in 2001. (ETA - Ah I see, rocker clarified it for me, they "redoubled efforts" , well good on them. Double or quadruple it, it makes no never mind.

Here's my last cent, melt it down and murder someone with it.

You can't fight a war on terror anymore than you can fight a war on drugs.

You can however, fund it.
