Mods - not sure if this should be in the general chit chat forum

This may be of interest to anyone running their website on a dedicated ip or through your own server/VPS.

I have been following this project for a while. Let's Encrypt is provided by the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG). ISRG is a California public benefit corporation. Up to the present day I was only aware of one company who offered free encryption certificates (StartSSL). Unfortunately they are limited to one sub-domain.

We now have Let's Encrypt offering free, automated, open certificates. I think the last major browser updates have their CA Authority included. They are not offering multiple sub-domains as yet but are allowing website owners multiple sub-domain certificates.

Obviously there is a lot more to encrypted websites than merely uploading a certificate (TLS version, encryption ciphers, perfect forward secrecy). A good starting point is Qualys SSL Labs.
