Cassini makes successful dive to 30 miles above Enceladus. Awaiting pictures.

Hi

The news that the unmanned cassini probe has now dived to 30 miles above the south pole of enceladus. The images are going to be received shortly which could reveal amazing details about the fascinating moon of Saturn.

Although cassini cannot detect life it can offer clues and more details of what lays beneath the plume.
I'm excited to what comes out of this. Hopefully I won't be let down.

I posted this in another thread, but here again is one of the new images:



It's a quick colour composite I threw up using images taken through infrared, green, and UV filters (they seem to be favouring those over the plain good old red/green/blue filters for "true-colour" images). This filter arrangement gives a bluish hue to the freshly-exposed ices in the cracks and ridges, meaning they absorb some infrared and reflect some UV light.

Cool! I look forward to seeing these pics. I didn't know about this either.
It's awesome that we get to see a birds eye view of these other worlds.

It is cold. But it's also active !

iirc Cassini did an about face to check her out as she flew past and discovered these jet streams being ejected.

Some places indicate the potential for life more than others.

LOL, yeah the pics should be pretty cool.

It is sad knowing what Humanity could achieve if we could stop spending trillions on killing each other over religion, or who controls what land and people politically.

Imagine if you could take China, Japan, Russia, US and EU military money and scientists and put it all toward Space Exploration and Colonization. What we would do and discover out there would make Earths resources meaningless.
