Dear mods ,
could we please have an 'applause' forum ?

The most insightful posts on ATS get 'applause' from you guys ,
but we never know which posts/threads they are , or which member
contributed them.
Some people put a lot of work into their replies , and I would like to read
those ,without having to randomly search for hours , and guess ,
sometimes to no avail .

Say for example , a no reply thread , repeated each week , that quotes
the entire applauded post or OP , with a link to the relevant thread
would be nice .

Not trying to add to your workload , but I think those applauded posts/threads
need more recognition , and would make my search for truth and understanding
much easier .

In the wings .... Radar

p.s maybe replace 'Deepwater Disaster' forum , it seems to exceeded it's shelf life ?

Just one person's opinion but... such a forum might lead to more conflict than appreciation.

Not everyone agrees on everything and if someone got applause for what another didn't like... look out.

Like I said, just one person's viewpoint.

agreement on anything is rare ,
but consensus protocol demands
'agree to disagree' ?

many people get applause for short posts, or funny one liners and many other things.
Most of them would be out of context.

Just enjoy the thread and posts.

Yah hey, you gave so and so an applause for saying that, how come I didn't get one?

Agreed! I think you should get an applause for this post.

Noooo, it will ruin it. We don't need our egos massaging. Let's keep it a mucking in together kind of experience, you know like soldiers in the trenches pulling our weight together to fight the lurgy of ignorance. All the other silly sites do nursery time things like that. Here we are big boys and girls.

lurgy
/ˈləːɡi/
noun British humorous
noun: lurgy; plural noun: lurgies
an unspecified or indeterminate illness.
"I had caught the dreaded lurgy"

I had a similar idea once; The annual ATS awards. It was a good idea, the best threads in a forum (voted by the mods) would make it to a 'hall of fame' forum and the members would be rewarded for their good work.

Do you see any ATS awards? Do you see a hall of fame forum?

There is no point knocking on that door.

Good idea but if ATS ever decides to go down this road, they should probably allow members to submit favs for review and then have member votes to choose across multiple subjects and like elections, through a series of primaries.

Having mods pick would just be a headache for management of a site that still, to this day, offers more liberty and ability to discuss most any issue, event, subject or person than any other place on the web.

On a sidenote, I had been away for a while. I was pleasantly surprised upon return to find my old home still intact.
It is an amazing effort to keep this place up and running.

Most my applause is from boring posts. Positive contributions to the forum but not often worthy of a place in a hall of fame.

I think the mods have enough to do and worry about without having yet another task. I also agree with others who say that some people may feel that they didn't get an applause while someone else did and would get their panties in a twist. Enjoy the posts you find worthy and star them.

I enjoy any applause that arrives in my in box - wayyy better than a warning lol !

I also go out of my way to thank those silly enough to appreciate some of my posts ...

I am happy with the private nod from the mod ... my catchphrase btw.

This isn't Facebook. If you want "likes" go repost a picture on Reddit.

I'm getting tired of people posting here for stars and flags. I love the mods, but you really think they aren't just normal people? I appreciate it when I get an Applause from the team, but that's not what I'm going for. Applause shouldn't be taken as some super important thing. You can be a wonderful, insightful, intelligent, member without ever garnering ANY applause.

I don't give a _- about someone's avatar score. No one should. Set mine to 0. People playing the post to star game or reading the metrics are idiots. Some of the best responses I've read have been authored by people lacking an avatar and with only a few posts.

It's sad you need someone to tell you what post to enjoy. Make up your own mind.

I'd prefer it if ATS generated a name every post. There's too much obvious bandwagoning.
