Space Propulsion: Blackhole, Pulsed Nuclear, Fusion , Antimatter, Lasers Best Human Space Tech?

The prospect of interstellar travel is no longer sci-fi. It COULD be achievable within our lifetime! But, how would an interstellar rocket-ship work? On this week's episode of Space Time, Matt talks options for interstellar travel - from traditional rocket fuel to antimatter drives, could we travel to other star systems. . . .

This thread is all about propulsion in space and space technology for humans. The means are many lets talk about some human options for space technology. I also wonder how space technology help humanity, in various areas from food to medicne.

So what say you ATS space technology in space and on earth? What is good? Any new ideas?

Good video, the blackhole drive concept was new to me. I think the antimatter and blackhole drives are two of the most promising ideas because they provide the very high levels of energy we really need to get around fast. Nuclear drives also seem like a very good option because they are possible with current tech and are quite efficient.

There is another theoretical propulsion mechanism which seems to be left out of that video: the warp drive (aka the Alcubierre drive). The advantage of the warp drive is that space moves around the ship instead of the ship moving through space, so you don't feel high G forces like you do with the other types of propulsion mechanisms.

It would also be possible to achieve faster than light speeds because there is no limit on how fast space can be warped. I wouldn't exactly call it a propulsion mechanism but we could also use wormholes to travel vast distances in a very short time if we were able to find a wormhole. If we could create our own wormholes that would be even better.

Usually it goes like this. Everything sci-fi, human innovation and ingenuity tries to make it into a reality..
But dont forget we are confined within the 3D realm, somethings doesnt matter how much we want it, will never become a reality in our physical bodies..

Gravity surfing or anti-gravity technology would not be useful for interstellar travel because there is no gravity in deep space to surf on. It would be good for getting around inside the gravity field of a planet but pretty useless for traveling between stars.

Dark energy used in a warp drive. To "fold space" would absolutely be the fastest most efficient interstellar travel

Space is saturated with gravity going every which way, but tightly focused around stars, planets, black holes, and any energy anomoly. Nuclear reactions create gravity. It is thin in some areas, and dense in others. But it is everywhere.

secret space program already exists. they have colonies on other planets. the people in the program are thousands a years ahead of us technologically.

You didn't seem to mention the possibility of negating mass as a sure-fire way to attain a virtual unlimited velocity. Why is that? Mass cancelling is an easily understood principle. Yes, it seems to defy standard physics, but that is because it is a work-around, side-stepping the rules of physics. For some strange reason (not!) people in the industry and NASA don't want to talk about anything other than one type of rocket-type of engine for space travel and are seemingly going crazy over one type of ion drive or another.

If the various controls over society can totally ignore the very evident means by how legitimate UFO seems to operate--a true psychos device in itself that the US government and assorted industries and sciences have used since day one of the UFO phenomena--then they and you can ignore thinking about mass cancelling technology. But on the other hand, isn't it strange about popular that method is within the sci-fi world?

I suggest to any ETs reading this and wanting to reveal a bit more about their manner of flight that they manufacture a new version of their round vehicles into the shape of a "hover board" then maybe the average, asleep member of the public could put two & two together for themselves.

The idea of of future spaceship propulsion using black holes has been mentioned a few times in various 'space' documentaries. The scientist in this clip tells about this idea as well, and also tells about a way to create black holes suitable for this task.

There's a thread on the Aviation Project forum where Zaphod and a few others have a some interesting comments regarding NASA's Orion project (nuclear detonation pulse engine, study done in the 50s wikipedia ) and the prominence of the Orion constellation in their mission patches I'll try and dig it out when I get back from the office.

Wormhole technology is like quantum mechanics-probable and improbable.

Probable as in it could negate the time dilation, but improbable as it would take an energy source with more power than we can ever harness. After all we are talking about rending the fabric of the universe itself.

Perhaps the secret lies beyond our knowledge of the four forces...for now.

If scientist could develop a device that can grip against spacetime, like a wheel grips to tarmac, we could easily travel to the stars within our lifetime. Perhaps the RF resonant cavity thruster that seemingly doesn't require any propellant for thrust, might be the breakthrough we need,

If we could develop an engine capable of propelling a probe at a constant 1G acceleration, the probe would accelerate close to the speed of light within 352 days, making it possible to enter the alpha centauri system within 7 years (earth time). There could be 100's of earth sized planets within 30LY of earth that could fire up the imagination of people,

They could always just beam holograms across space in virtual reality rooms projecting images across space and time, and recieve images.

Physical travel between the stars just takes too much energy as we know it.

Amplified psychic travel or artificially enhanced remote viewing/presence would probably be the way to go. Bypass spacetime altogether. Unfortunately, humanity probably won't survive long enough for that to be developed.

"Demon" possession might be that very thing, done by another lifeform in the universe, but we're not smart enough to recognize it.

Yeah, we're pretty good at understanding electromagnetism because that is what our senses are built to perceive, although we don't have the skills and power generation capabilities to be able to completely harness it.

Maybe other forces beyond our preceptual abilities might someday be discovered by our enhanced artificial intelligences and provide a means of practical physical travel between present Earth and distant points in time and space. But that's a mighty big "maybe."

Actually....weve done it already but since its a black project you wont see anything from it until they deem it to be revealed. Also The Black tris when in operation NEGATE THEIR MASS and become lighter than air and everything in that field also loses the pull on its mass. Yes Astro would had been perfect to pos t in this thread with his knowledge of this program.
