Dyson Spheres are just plain silly.

Agreed. Apparently a Dyson Swarm is what you want. Interesting article

Would probably look more like a cloud of asteroids too.
There is a Dyson ring as well, but as you say this probably is closer to a swarm.

This is worthy of our attention, can't wait to find out what the anomaly really is.

If it's a structure then we've got some hope... If it's a shadow we should all RUN AWAY!

LOL

Seriously though, this is a great mystery at the moment.

Seems like SETI already found a strange periodic signal from KIC 8462852:
SETI Institute Undertakes Search for Alien Signal from Kepler Star KIC 8462852

So, this has already been detected, a periodic signal from that exact star! This is infact huge, dont know why it has not received any attention. It should read:

Periodic signal detected from dimming star!

So far I have seen references to a ring around the sun as well as a dyson sphere, but who knows for sure until we get some offical pictures or concept pictures. Have any of you herd any more ideas of the shape of the massive jupiter sized object?

I am still under the impression that periodic signal referenced is the Kepler light flux findings and not a new periodic siggnal discovered by SETI. The article is about SETI beginning monitoring.

Here is some more information on what we in the public know so far. . . . . .

If a large star and a smaller, dimmer star were both in close eliptical orbits around each other, the whole system would spin itself as they chased each other. This could produce what would be initially seen as random fluctuations as they eclipse and come into conjuncture with the line of site of Earth, but over a long period of observation, the overall pattern should probably be computable. I wonder if they have enough data to substantiate that or rule it out?

Hate to see this thread die off. It is important.
Would like to see more hypothesis that would support our known understanding of the universe before jumping on aliens.
There have to be some more theories yet untold in ATS'ers minds. Keep em coming
