That's a subject that have been covered many times. U could probably find a thread by searching.

As for me, when I want free softwares, I check out download.com

U can see the number of people who downloaded it, the rating they gave it, etc etc...

Same for tucows.com

Well I use Symantec Corporate AV (no free AV for me
), but I heard lots of people talking (in good) of AVG. I think Panda antivirus is also said to be a good one? (not sure on this one)

Here's a thread I found without searching, just by looking at the computer forum first page.
www.belowtopsecret.com...

DreamLandMafia recommended Avast in that thread, and if DLM is recommending it, it must be good

Edit: BTW, my first post wasn't aimed at mocking u or turning u down, I was just explaining why you probably won't get a lots of answer. (because it's been asked many times)

Edit2: BTW, that movie (in ur avatar) is really hilarious hehe..

here we go again...

i use norton (only get it if you bittorent) because i think it is nuts to pay $50 or more on ANY computer software no matter what it is ( unless it is games )

i am going to uninstal norton soon and get avast though because mine is "broke"...

If you want free AV, you can't beat AVG. That's what I use when building computers for friends & family, those who perhaps don't need anything too high tech, i.e. they have dial-up as opposed to broadband.

I use ZoneAlarm Security Suite for my own computers. Everything in one package: A/V, firewall, privacy controls, pop-up/ad blocking, content filtering, etc. Excellent product: easy to set up, unobtrusive, not too resource-hungry, keeps itself updated, cheap compared to the competition.

I used to use Norton, but became comvinced that it was slowing my computer down. No way to know for sure, I guess, but it sure runs better without it.

I still say go with the freebies...

AVG 7 Free is a superb Anti-Virus Scanner, nothing wrong with it at all.
Another good A/V is AntiVir.

Yet another free upcoming alternative, is ClamAV (I think they only do UNIX versions at the moment, but it's Open Source).

Nod32 for antivirus and ZoneAlarm for firewall. And if possible keep your system up to date.
