Part of me wants to post the photos but...it' smy daughter and it's the internet and all....

DONT! Ignore those who say she's old enough!
1. She's not old enough.
2. YOU have no right to put HER face on the net, that should be her choice when she's old enough.
3. Well done for not posting her face.

You do not need to prove anything, not at all.

It is a heart warming story, and that is in itself enough reason to share it with us.

Thank you for the smiles, and best wishes to you and yours.

but his opunion on.."is humanity the only species with advanced minds within the universal creation", means to me, just as much as a fish in a tank.

Think about it!
The point is it may be the opinion of someone who KNOWS and cannot tell details.
What better person to have seen or been involved with or told of aliens here on earth or on other bodies in space!

A retired Canadian astronaut who was the first Canadian to walk in space.
An engineer and former Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot,
Flown two space shuttle missions and served as commander of the International Space Station.
Became a test pilot and flew several experimental planes
Hadfield has flown over 70 different types of aircraft.

One grain of sand does not speak or represent the entire beach

What does this mean? One man doesn't represent all of us? Clearly not

What a very kind thing for him to do! That'll intrigue her interest for the next ten years to come. Really sunny when people do kind things for no other reason but for other people.

And if you have a soul, or a conscience, I think the universe demands attention.

That must've been an awesome experience for you both.

I've heard him speak in interviews and a got the gist that the man was humbled by his experiences. He said something profound, I can't recite it word for word but it was something akin to 'you can see the earth and it's beauty, but if you turn your head you can stare into eternity.'

He was also fond of the Canadian space agency and it's willingness to do their own thing. For a man who spent so much time in zero gravity he seems grounded.

That is so awesome!

I've met many astronauts over the years while I lived on the Space Coast (Brevard County in Florida). I got to go to many launches and roll outs due to people I knew from NASA or the Kennedy Space Center. I had a friend of mine who worked in mission control take me to an astronaut luncheon. I was like a little kid! I asked them all if they believed in alien life and they all said yes. I had my picture taken with each one of them and they all signed my poster of Atlantis. They were the last crew to go up in Atlantis before the program ended. I have so much memorabilia from over the years and the people I've met.

I recently met an astronaut while at work and was a giddy little kid. He was surprised I knew who he was but when we talked more he definitely understood. He was so cool! Meeting the astronauts I met is way cooler than meeting a celebrity!

What a cool gift for your daughter. One she will never forget and always have!

If you have seen Interstellar you might remember that they sent astronauts thru a wormhole with the hope they might find a way home in the future. They had lied to the astronauts and gave them false hope with the hope of being wrong in the future.

i think this guy knows deep down we are alone and there is no way we will find other life, but it doesn't hurt to look anyways. sometimes any answer is better than no answer. but who knows maybe we aren't alone and will never know it or he knows something we don't.

I talk to NASA guys all the time they all believe in Aliens. One mission control guy said there are cities on the dark side of the moon that reach three miles high now they are ruins. He also said not to be afraid of aliens. They observe us . If they wanted to take over the planet they could do so with ease.

Sure you do. How was he supposed to know?

His clearance level and past missions pertaining to "need to know" perhaps?
You are aware of SCI subjects and military NASA missions I would have assumed.

But then there is still that damned Brookings problem NASA still adheres to. Such a pity.

I went to school with Stephen Oswald, and he's a super guy and all, besides being an astronaut, but he was one astronaut who wouldn't talk about alien life much. He was scared when people would ask him about those subjects. He had a TS SCI clearance and probably saw stuff and was briefed on stuff that scared him because of that non disclosure thing and all that..

Small world isn't it Jim?

She's too young to understand right now. I certainly appreciated it. I'm sure one day she will too.

Well you could edit or black out her name I suppose.
Would be cool too see the inscription but I understand your reservation.
And absolutely, she will truly appreciate it one day.

Sounds awesome. My dad has an amazing story from when he was a child that puts chills down my spine every time I hear it. Your daughter will appreciate this. To quell any questions to your credibility.. maybe you could just take a photo of the note in your book and post it? Congrats on meeting him btw!
