Recently there was a thread of "The American Psychiatric Association was Bullied into Removing Gayness from the DSM"

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Almost all the posts followed the "about section".

•We refuse to allow short "drive-by" posting that add nothing to the thread.
•We refuse to allow insults and mayhem that you'll see on many other boards.
•We refuse to allow spam and hate speech.
•We promote intelligent posting.
•We promote productive debate and collaborative discussion.
•We promote the examination of any topic as long as manners are maintained.
•We respect the content of other sites and encourage linking.
•We respect our members' content and defend its credibility and their rights.

There were a couple of "drive by posts", but I would say the ones for and against the OP moved the post along. There were tons of well though out links to medical journal articles and other stories. So why was it pulled?

There wasn't any hate speech. Question of is something a mental disorder, isn't hate speech. Plus, there are always tons of Conservatism/Liberalism is a mental disorder posts that never get yanked. So debating if something is a mental disorder has precedent. So again, why was it pulled.

I cannot find anything it violated in the "terms and conditions of use"

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Then after 5 pages of one of the better recent ATS threads, this message pops up

"Closed for staff review."

Should it not say "closed for staff review due to __________________". This sounds like a news dump that happens on a Friday before a long weekend. Let the post fall from the boards, and hopefully people will forget about it. If one cannot say it violates ATS rules, then it would be a personal moderator's decision, and is there any consequences if the moderator acted as a lone wolf? I think the ATS community deserves better.

Moderators do not normally act as "lone wolfs". They collaborate on many of the decisions made here on removing posts and threads. If there was no infraction of the T&C's, the thread would still be open. Also, the OP receives a u2u in their inbox explaining why the thread was closed. It is true, they normally do not explain why when they close it, but occasionally they do. Especially if they have previously warned thread participants.

last moderator on that thread is "Don'tTreadOnMe".....send a U2U to him and he will probably tell you the reason.

The staff do not discuss staff actions with the membership at large.

If a thread is binned, that's between the staff and the member who posted the thread.

No staff action is done in 'lone wolf' format. Staff debate and decide together, by consensus virtually EVERY single action taken, outside of severe T&C violations like gore, or porn or something of that nature.

You can always file an alert with staff for your inquiry, but if you were not the OP of the thread, you are not likely to get an answer as per our long standing policy.

Thread answered, thread Closed.
