In a 61-43 vote, the Inernational Atomic Energy Agency General Assembly on Thursday defeated a proposal submitted by Egypt and supported by Syria, Iran, Libya, and Iraq to force inspections on Israel's nuclear reactor in Dimona.

Israel had been working closely with the US and other Western allies behind the scenes in order to reach a majority that would block the proposal.

The Foreign Ministry sent envoys to a number of countries on several continents in order to convince them to oppose the two resolutions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is also acting foreign minister, held talks with several leaders and foreign ministers, and asked them to oppose the motion.

The head of Israel's Atomic Energy Committee, Ze'ev Snir, spoke before the committee yesterday and condemned the Arab group over its attempt to single out Israel. Snir warned that "if the resolution passes, it will only hurt the credibility of the IAEA by politicizing the organization and reducing its valuable resources."

Israel accused of being singled out? Of course they are being singled out by Egypt, Syria, Iran, Libya, and Iraq, interesting that Egypt submitted the proposal. But, so what? Israel uses it influence to single out Iran all the time, who are only working on this deal because of crushing economic sanctions from the US and it's allies.

With this deal Iran will be allowing inspections of their nuclear material, from start to finish, but why is Israel so against the IAEA inspecting their nuclear site? Is it because they have something to hide or are they playing the very political games they warn the IAEA not to play? Maybe it's a bit of both? Israel does all it can to thwart inspections of their nuclear material.

Is this because Israel doesn't want to be recognized as a nuclear weapons state?

Everyone knows Israel is a nuclear state. A friend of mine who recently passed away travelled to Israel years ago. His new found Israeli friend showed him the massive facility where "They don't make nuclear weapons ". Nudge nudge, wink wink.

I don't even understand why this is still a question.

but why would you work so diligently to block it out ?

If I were a suspicious man...I'd think they have something to hide.

I guess we'd hear an incident against "Dimona Nuclear Reactor" later on.

I have supported the conformity and abidance of Israel's nuclear facilities and weapons program since learning about Mordechai Vanunu's outing of it all. It should have nothing to do with any other country in the Middle Easy. Just the fact that they possess weapons of such a nature should be a cry out for the world to hold it and any Nation who has them accountable. India, Pakistan, North Korea, Iran & Israel. Until all are accountable I don't ever see ZIsrael being singled as acceptable though.
