Philosophy is a great tool to improve one's use of knowledge to arrive at the truth of the matter. Basically logic and argument forming skills, right?

However, I think philosophy can also be an endless circle-jerk of thoughts that have no end goal sometimes.

Beyond having superb logic and argument skills, what is the point of having an education in philosophy? I never understood what having a PHD in philosophy was for, other than one enjoying reading and discussing other philosophers?

This was not directed at anyone, just my general thoughts. Feel free to respond

I would say to awaken the intelligence in the students, if done properly.
With that i mean, learning and sharing the issue together, not a teacher who merely informs and students that have to memorize.
