So I was farting around on Netflix before work today and saw they have some show called Narcos. Figured I would check it out and see how it was.

It's actually pretty freaking good.

I'm only a few episodes into it but it chronicles Pablo Escobar's rise to power in Colombian drug trafficking and manufacturing. It's from the perspective of a DEA agent assigned to the embassy in Bogota. It doesn't shy away from talking about the rampant corruption in the Colombian government and law enforcement, nor are the Americans safe. It point blank says the reason the war on drugs (specially that white powder Escobar was famous for) was because of money. It also doesn't shy away from showing what the Americans were doing down there, either.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. If you have any interest in Escobar or the war on drugs, or just the history of it all, it's worth checking out.

I'll check it out. Reading various books, news and watching documentaries... I don't see how it can be denied that we've really FUBAR'd Mexico, Central and South America. Most of their problems are because of us. Never read/watched much from a US agents POV before though.

Thanks

You're welcome!

It's pretty shocking to be honest. I knew it was like the wild freaking west down there, but this show doesn't pull any punches about it. The Americans aren't exactly painted as the "real" bad guys in it all, but they sure as hell aren't the white knights either.

I'm on episode two right now. I love the history of Pablo and the DEA. So far it's pretty good. I just finished watching Hell On Wheels and I had been looking for a new show.

Its pretty good. Some folks I know noticed they were using Brazilian actors (the accent gives them away).

I found it amusing how they "hinted" at the CIA's involvement. It'll be interesting to see if that plot line grows or not.

Oh really? I don't know the accents nearly enoug to pick up on that. The only ones I figured were brazilians were the two women that one guy uh....*ahem* "pointed out" we're Brazilian lol

Just got into this show. It is quite well done. I had an idea about the severity of it all, but not on the level it is portrayed. Imagine, $60 million PER DAY, of profit!!?? They WERE bigger than GM. No wonder the US was pissed about the black market they created! Million dollar bounties on JUST police officers when Escobar went to war with the state. And all sponsored and influenced by the CIA. Incredible...but not surprising.

Yeah that was a great series. Netflix is doing a great job with their series , and changing the industry with releasing the complete season at once .

A must see for organized crime fans - The best crime drama I have ever seen.

And yes, if you were paying attention to the news back then, read the magazine articles, and one or more of the books on
Pablo Escobar and the Columbian drug cartels - You know what you are watching is at least 90% true.

Incredible to believe that one major drug dealer had achieved almost complete control of the the nation of Colombia!!!

If you have or sign-up for Netflix and start watching it, allow some time for a day or two, becuase you will want to watch it from beginning to end. If I rate it on IMDb I may give it 10/10; as it stands it is rated 8.9/10 from over 100.000 viewers.

My favorite genre is not crime but intelligent and exciting science fiction - This exciting true story is more exciting than,
and more far fetched than most science fiction.
