Heff, I am familiar with your story, and I am not talking about people with managed illnesses who are non-violent. I'm thinking more about people like James Holmes, and whoever that student was who shot those people at Virginia Tech, and Adam Lanza.....

I worked with addicts for several years...I understand how the homeless with mental illnesses who used to be insitutionalized were turned out with no follow up back in the 80s are not on their meds. I also understand that hard core drug addicts ALWAYS have a comorbid issue, whether it's a physical ailment, a circumstantial problem, or some other thing in their lives that they are trying to 'self-medicate'.

I hope you understand.

I don't mean to offend. The mental health system was my professional venue, and drug addiction treatment was part of my job - not as a Substance Abuse Counselor, but as a general clinician who was assigned any clients (whether users or not) whose families or lives were impacted by drug abuse/addiction (like a meth-head's child). I also got training from a "rehab" SAC. Detox only centers USUALLY do not treat the underlying causes of the drug addiction in many cases. They simply manage the detox and stick people in 12-step programs.

It's getting better, but it's not fixed yet. It's the fallout from ending state funding for mental health care.

I hope that makes sense.
In any case, this guy was insane.

Just curious as to what you are trying to suggest.

Are you suggesting they saw him yet, just stood there to get shot?

Are you saying it's a fake video. I'm just curious because you seem very sure that something isn't right with the video.

I have above exceptional situational awareness and I can be focused on a problem at work and not notice somebody come stand right in front of me before. News casters are so used to people goofing off behind them, flashing the camera, etc, they don't pay any attention anymore. Something that will obviously change probably.

Not so. Being shot doesn't knock people off their feet like on a movie.

Being shot with a handgun is more akin to having holes literally punched in you. Relatively low velocity rounds that do damage to tissue they strike and destroy as they pass through.

High velocity rifle rounds carry much more energy, and would be more likely to literally knock someone down. They cause a type of small shockwave to ripple throughout your body emanating from where you are hit. Pistols do too, but to a much lesser extent.

That's my layman understanding, at least. Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

He fires right at her and she just screams and runs - he points right around chest and neck height.
Very strange indeed.

Has anyone ever seen someone shot up close?

Has anyone ever seen what a FMJ ammo does when it penetrates?

Many times the round goes in and exits very quickly, so we wouldn't see blood, or bleeding right away.

Many times the bleeding is internal.

Shouldn't she have dropped like a sack of potatoes after being shot at least 3 times at close range...no matter the caliber of the gun?

You've seen too many Hollywood movies.

I have to agree.

Plus, the lady being interviewed doesn't really have a clear line of site of the shooter because the camera man is blocking him for the most part.

Plus, she was probably nervous as heck being interviewed live and was focused only on the reporter and what they were talking about.

But and this is important..the interview was apparently taking place at 6:30 or 6:40am, in the early morning. What would this simple bystanding visitor or tourist be doing there at that hour to begin with. Most theme parks open at 9:00am, and for that reason it seems as though the journalist and the interviewee should have been a bit more weary of something or someone moving behind their cameraman who was normally there alone. Also, the flooring where the interview was taking place, should have been sounding a little bit since it seems to be hard wood, or some type of hard wood bridge; it's too bad they weren't able to catch those signs a bit.. What has happened finally to the lady being interviewed? She was injured as well..

One thing is for sure the US news will play this all day and night…good ratings.

The ambulance chasing and tabloid CNN particularly, Fox and MSNBC will play this story all day too

The only half ass news we have left in the US is Al Jazeera and even there they are puppets of Qatari politics…yet they are the only semblance of news left in America

And we wonder why there’s a killing like this a week

Maybe Wolf Blitzer and Don Lemon should have a duel on national Tv

That would be a REALLY big show

or have a Fox versus MSNBC shoot out on national Tv

I don't know really what I'm saying... it's just weird that he stands there for 5 seconds with gun pointed at Aisons face and neither of them saw it.. and it was 5 seconds coz i counted.

i wonder why he didn't pull the trigger straight off? Maybe he was having second thoughts about doing it.. maybe he thought to himself... 'what? You still don't notice me here?'

It was not a theme park. It happened in what looks like some stores and was on the shore of a lake - exactly a place where folks would go early for fishing and boating.

PBS and NPR are actually news stations. Today I had to run an errand during this 'manhunt' - my destination had Fox News playing the same footage over and over and yammering on and on about this shooter and things like:
Oh now he's dead.
No, wait he's not dead.
Wait, we don't know but ABC got a 20-some page manifesto faxed to them overnight.

MEANWHILE, in my car, NPR was playing their regular local programs and world news, and this was not even MENTIONED.

Drug users have to want to quit for any kind of 12 step program to work. It irks me that alcoholism is considered a disease -- we don't send people with heart disease, diabetes or cancer to support groups to get better. For those people, we find medical treatments.

It appears he waited because the camera man was filming the scenery around them, and the camera wasn't on the reporter. As soon as the camera panned back on the reported he fired.

He wanted full attention on what he was doing. Extremely premeditated and someone that knew exactly what they were doing.

Because the cameraman did a sort of panaramic shot. The gunman waited for the cameraman to focus back onto the interviewer so it all could be filmed.

I think he was waiting for the camera man to turn the camera back on the reporter so that the shooting went out live.

Other posters noticed this as well. It was very methodical on his part. Sick, just sick.
