Because AshleyMadison.com caters to married people looking to cheat on their spouse. It is not simply a Match.com or Tinder type of site where singles go to meet folks.

I'm still not sure why that matters. Anyone who used this website was looking to cheat anyways and would have done so without it.

50% of people cheat, statistically if you're not cheating on your spouse they're cheating on you. It should be no surprise that people in large corporations, or the government, or the military were cheating... it's pretty much human nature, and it always has been.

Why would you use your work email address? Or even your real name? Or even your regular credit card? They make these things called pre-paid debit cards now.

I'm not surprised so many people in these professions/companies were members -- I'm more surprised they used their work emails for the accounts.

I was digging through the dump, and one thing I noticed (as the gov accounts stand out) was the joining date. Some of these accounts are years old.

I remember back in 05 being able to get to dating sites to check messages when at work. I worked for a state gov dept back then. Even though I worked in IT I didn't have anymore access to the net than anyone else. Back them internet usage was self policed.

Things are very different 10 years later. Just this year alone we have had at least 2 ransomware attacks that have been dignity successful and a few more that due to vigilance of the user didn't achieve anything. And that is just from fraudulent emails that look like they came from Australia Post and Toll respectively.

I am still working in IT and these days I can't even get to real estate sites, I found this out when I was looking to buy land last year.

I would say some of the gov accounts were created when things were more lax and not as scary. I will have another look over the weekend and confirm. Not that I really care what people get up in their life...although I am a bit lost sometimes

Oh an other thing I noticed was multiple accounts with same email. No surprise really. Some accountsmmakes, with a female account of the same address. I don't know if these accounts where scammers but I suspect it is very likely when you read the ratio of guys to fans on the site. I think 5 to 1 was quoted in a story I read the other day.

ALL THOSE 15,000 e-mails from a government PC or connection device has a unique address identifying IT...

determine what PC station was in communication with the Ashley Madison 'have-a-fling' site and

dock that person's pension/ retirement payout by at least 10%...no use hurting them at present as they will likely react stupidly to the diminished usual paycheck amount, perhaps even with workplace violence

It wouldn't surprise me if most of it is true

And if it is? Last I've heard people like to get it on. Perhaps I'm not sure why any of this is newsworthy, let alone interesting.

You might feel otherwise if your spouse was caught in the act.

I feel like people would know better to use a work e-mail address but people do some crazy things.

Also I did read that part that it is not e-mail verified, so I am not taking those as fact that it was employees.

Wouldn't surprise me. Everybody works somewhere, and some people only have a work email.

I guess Josh Duggars name came up too, this is fun.
raw story

Yup. I already started a thread on it:
ATS Duggar Thread

It also includes details about the organization he headed (until the whole molestation thing came out, yuck) and their stances on limiting everyone else's sexual freedom.

Using a dating website to try and find an affair in the Age of the horny people infested Internet -- sad.

Using one's actual, veridical details to do so -- priceless!
