That first pic you had up on page 1 sure didn't seem like any huge explosion.....Unless I missed it completely!!!!

Here I can see the flash, but the "aftermath" picture is not what I would classify as a huge explosion....RIP those killed (no disrespect intended, just what "I see from the pics")

They are now saying it was a motorcycle bomb.

A motorcycle bomb has exploded in a commercial center in Thailand's capital Bangkok, killing 12 people, according to police and a rescue worker. At least 20 others have been injured, local media reported.
"All I can say now is there has been an explosion in central Bangkok involving a motorcycle bomb," deputy national police chief Aek Angsananond told Reuters.

I heard motorcycle bomb but no classification to a group was made yet...(as far as I am aware)

I hope they find out who did this. What a horrible attack so near a shrine. May the victims RIP.

Local news is reporting 15 known dead and at least 80 injured. It was a bomb and there are reports a second bomb has been found and defused..

Been a long time since a bomb went off in Bangkok.

To early to tell who did what as no one is taking responsibility at this stage. However with all the cameras in Bangkok my money is on the cops figuring out who is responsible.

They know it was a bomb attack therefor an act of terrorism, currently the suspicion is Islamic terrorists who operate in the south of the country, also the attack was on a Hindu and Buddhist shrine. It is not a fringe or silly assumption to say this was jihadist, as this fits the jihadist M/O to the T.

With all the political turmoil in Thailand and the back and forth with China... I'm less sure that it was Islamic terrorism.

China would not do that.

They have moved beyond such crude acts of violence.

If they attack you its through massive cyber attacks. Does far more damage to a country overall, as lets be fair here a government does not really care if a dozen or so peasants get blown apart, they do care if they lose a few billion out the economy.

^No confirmation on the above. But if the 'foreign tourists' part is true, it would definitely shake things up a bit. Especially if those casualties turned into fatalities as a result of terrorism.
