When you see the large cities, where people see a chance, i see a huge clump of cancer growing at a ferocious speed and we call the advancement, most people in those cities are barley intelligent enough to do their work.

Perhaps as you suggest, even the dissolving of a true nation entity imagined as some grand empire, and community's not based on the forced compulsion of giving but the free giving spirit that resides in all of us.

I love the whole thread but how can we begin to rebuild when we never got the chance to improve. I mean with WTO and TPP where Governments can be sued for standing in the way of a foreign companies ahem "progress" so they take the last remaining 10% of my income I have left to save (really like -5% after taxation).

Maybe we need to see the whole thing burn down before it gets rebuilt. Even if we start think at village level the city will make its demands as crumbling infrastructure takes ever more out of the decreasing public pie.

When we get used to the idea that someone else can claim what should be ours, then we start to think we can claim that which belongs to others. It more or less breeds a lack of respect for each other.

So I thought until I read the fine print (taxes on unencumbered land, mineral rights, eminent domain) on my land title after paying the bank with real dollars that they lent that they created out of thin air.

How can I begin to respect such a state of affairs. How can I lie to my children and tell them to purchase with their sweat "real" "estate" because thats all land title is?
How can I walk into a bank to pay off a mortgage knowing that the 60 floors of opulence have been built on fiat?

Once the lie is revealed you can never think the same again. It then becomes a competition. The race to pay off the loan, the race to stay 1 step ahead of inflation, never knowing whether all your hard labour will be wiped out by JP Morgans latest machinations or short selling using non existent contracts,

But it has been kept hidden and survived. The church assists the oligarchy (robber barons) by the divine rule of kings. We are still under a feudal system.

If you have a house, would you burn it and build four small houses, so instead of one family living very comfortable, you could provide for four families living just enough. Would you sell your BMW to buy four smaller cars. As long as you think as to what is beneficial for you, the system faulters. If the ideology is we all should share, it becomes a reality when the first person burns his house to build for smaller.

I saw a clip about a man, who had nothing but still shared his pizza. Compassion, and being able to relate is a powerful lesson. The less people have the more they share.

But you post already shows a lack of respect for what another has.

It already drips with contempt for the person who has where someone else lacks in some way or other.

Who defines "just enough?" Who decides that the BMW is a "bad" car to have? We just replaced my 15-year-old beater with a year old Nissan. Did we purchase "too much" car? All I did was do the research on model reliability and other factors trying to hit the jack pot with another car that is likely to reward us with long mileage if we invest in regular and proper maintenance. Who is to say the Beamer owner isn't doing the same?

So long as people are sharing what they have, what the hold back should not be the issue, and you shouldn't seek to make it such.

That's what I mean. We already live in a system where you can never truly own anything because they tax everything.

We own one car, and we still have to pay taxes on it every year. Why it's ours, but it will pretty quickly cease to be if didn't pay those yearly "payments" on it.

It already creates lack of respect for the idea of ownership. No one truly owns anything, and the digital economy is only making this worse. How many people actually own their software or books anymore?

For anyone to have it better than most, for you to have a good life a hundred people need to just barely have enough money to buy food. For one to thrive another must strive, that is a simple motto.

You buy a new car, as you said, are you productive? Do you make what you sell? If you do, i will not say a thing, all you buy and spend in life is yours. Do you grow your own crop? Butcher your own food? Build your house? The list goes on, and on most of the aspects i believe, you dont. The way this world works is that 95% of the money does not exist, its borrowed, the banks makes an assesment based on your ability to pay back more, you take a loan, just to have a more comfortable life. Not a necessity of survival.

In the western hemisphere we go to work, most people know how to turn a computer on, put in a few numbers in a alghoritm made by an Indian, go to the market and buy some food. What do you know in life, you can buy food at the supermarket if you work. Domesticated primate no more.

Now we gone all the way to basics, you have it better than most, just because you learned how to survive in your enviroment, if another person has a problem with surviving in the same, would you tell him, hey i learned how to survive and sorry i learned how to use a system that benefits on those who are greedy.

The OP was we want change, but we arent willing to change. I just gave it to you on a silver plater, for me i really couldnt care about ideals, the solution is there, the problem is you not willing to change.

Two things to say about this topic.

1) The serious facet: I have a renewed belief these days that humanity will be able to pull itself out of its present divisiveness and self-destruction. The trend is toward longer life spans and greater quality of life even in the most squalid parts of the world today. (Though there is certainly a long, long way to go before everyone or even most people have what most here would consider a good quality of life, don't get me wrong.)

Things like periscope and other technological innovations mean very soon it will become impossible to successfully dehumanize an adversary population. And I suspect it will at least become difficult for people to see their fellow humans just trying to survive a world away as something "other." (This is an example of unpredictable emergent behavior that I doubt any government or governing body can control or curtail.)

Cars that don't require fossil fuels are finally beginning to become cost effective to some degree. Still a long road ahead, but this is the beginning of a turning point in terms of the global energy economy in my opinion. At first it will seem like an uphill battle, but in time it will seem unthinkable that we ever relied on fossil fuels for so many things (though they aren't going to completely go away for a long, long time, for myriad reasons.)

Military conflicts still continue to happen, but increasingly they seem to be smaller in scale & constrained by international pressure of various kinds, if not entirely curtailed. Global responses to pandemics & epidemics have improved (though there is still a lot of delay unless a first world country is affected, which is very sad.)

Self driving cars, and then probably other self driving vehicles, in the not-too-distant future will empower a lot of people to gain mobility who presently lack it. And will likely increase the safety and survivability of travel, creating an even more unified world than already exists today.

The point is, all in all, things are improving, if not fast enough for our tastes, and certainly unequally.

I strongly suspect now that, given time - even if it takes another 100 years or more - technological and more importantly SOCIAL synergy will produce emergent behaviors & systems we haven't predicted, and will dramatically improve things for a large proportion of the human population.

And 2) On the less far reaching, but no less sincere side of things: The 60s & the 90s are by far my two favorite cultural & musical decades. (Maybe art across all media for that matter.) So indeed, go retro, feel the vibes, and rock on.
