It's also funny to see people suddenly take pride in a flag, word or the "southern way of life" when they didn't give a damn about it a week earlier.

Actually Southern People Took Pride in Their Heritage and The South Before All of This Nonsense Came About.

Depends on the subject at hand. The fact that people on either side believe the other side is the real problem is what's more amusing. " yeah were bad, but the other side is worse". And the illusion is sold and bought and becomes the reality. Trust me when I say for the people that support neither side, it's one of the biggest entertainment values the rest of society provides

Let's see if we can clear up one misconception here and now. People calling for bans on speech or physical items of any sort are NOT liberals. They are authoritarians .
The media is being used as puppets of the authoritarians in furtherance of the profits of the six corporations that own the majority of the media outlets consumed by the public.

Liberals, on the other hand, promote LIBERTY---freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion and the freedom to pursue life, liberty and happiness.
These authoritarians can lie and call themselves liberals all they wish---they can call themselves cute little puppies if they wish---but that won't make it true.
The Democrat party was once the refuge of the majority of liberals in this country. After Jimmy Carter's re-election defeat, they sold out to the corporate world. The leaders of the corporate world need a populace that will obey unconditionally all the dictates of the media companies: "Buy this", "Believe this", "Practice this" or be unhappy and broke for the rest of your life.
Now we have the wholly-owned and corporately operated Republicrat (or Demopublican, if you prefer) government of the US. Liberal values lose to money but "liberal" sounds easier on the ear than "authoritarian don't you agree?
Nothing in liberal philosophy demands the banning of expression. It's the philosophy that caused the Bill of Rights to be written.
Someone had to dig pretty danged deep to even discover this incident---leading me to believe that someone was once again looking for what my grand-kids call "click bait" in order to stir this pot again. Someone believes that keeping this in front of us will divert our attention.

You don't get it. I don't support either side either. I'd prefer to be an independent. When I say that the right is worse with their propaganda and lies. I mean it. It's true. Like I said, the left aren't any saints, but if you TRULY pay attention, the right is worse.

The only reason it looks like I'm a liberal is because I'm CONSTANTLY debunking all the lies pushed by the right. Every now and then, I get to debunk a lie pushed by the left, but it's pretty uncommon.

Good point, another extreme measure the public was nudged into was to go along with three strike laws and the war on drugs. We're still paying for THAT mistake.

The two sides to the same coin argument in today's political climate is just one made from someone who doesn't understand all the issues. Yes, both sides use very similar tactics at times and there are even people on both sides of the aisle that are friends privately, but there really IS a stark difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.

I mean, I used to be one of those guys saying the "two sides to the same coin" argument, and for a while it looked to be true because both parties really WEREN'T that different. But things changed over the last 8 years. The Republicans adopted the persona of the anti-Democrat party instead of adopting their own positions. So how it sits now is that the Republicans have done everything in their power to make sure they are the EXACT opposite of the Democrats. Even on issues that are supposed to be no brainers.

I'm sorry, but I cannot agree with that rhetoric anymore. It just isn't as true as it used to be.

Southern pride seems to be an odd thing.

Lost the war. Receive the most amount of gov't assistance while complaining about too much socialism/gov't interference. Actively limits the liberties of citizens. Some of the lowest graduation rates of the Union.

Pride... shouldn't it really be shame?

The word Dixie comes from the fact that it is the southern side of the Mason-Dixon Line, including states such as the border states, and West Virginia, that came after the war.

Kentucky, Delaware and Maryland are all in "Dixie" yet today one would consider Delaware and Maryland as northern while Kentucky and West Virginia are both southern oriented.

North Carolina is now less southern because of the influx of so many northerners, it is called the most northern state in the south.

And there was a dispute over the border in this article. 150 feet made the difference for some residents.

Meh, just fly the several Native tribes flags, and call it the Dixie Classic Everybody's Somebody Fair.

Considering every grouping of humanity possesses their own warts and failures, you could argue nobody should have pride in themselves at all... or you could show a little bit of humanity and celebrate cultural pride and embrace the parts of their history and traditions they're trying to share.
