The new study, published in the Journal of Archaeological Science, says the area was submerged about 9350 years ago (give or take 200 years) when the last Ice Age retreated. Before that time the area was believed to be something of an archipelago, with a string of islands linking Europe to North Africa via a shallow sea.

“It was cut and extracted as a single stone from the outer rectilinear ridge situated about 300 to the south, and then transported and possibly erected,” the study reads. ”From the size of the monolith, we may presume that it weighs about 15 tons.”

The researchers say the existence of the monolith — which features unusual holes drilled through its base — is forcing scholars to rethink the technological know-how of ‘primitive’ hunter gatherers.

The nearby island of Malta is home to a series of mysterious megalithic temples. These have been tentatively dated to some 5600 years ago.

More evidence to support the civilization pre younger dryas that built all of the monolithic mega structures across the planet.

More evidence against mainstream history and archaeology. How much longer before we know the real truth?

think this monolith was likely related to male fertility ?

the overall shape and the (proportionate sized) 60 cm hole going the length of half the broken 'tube' and the same passage-way going down the other half of the broken 60 ft tubular shaped object with a circular passageway in It's center does not need further thought.... a 'BIC pen' was not being immortalized in stone

Oh I see now ... wow! I just thought the hole was like a loop on the top. It was difficult to understand the description in the report too, but you are right - it's clearly a near 12 metre, umm, 'shaft' through the length of the monolith. I can't imagine how they would achieve such a task. It also describes two holes about halfway down on either side, which don't go all the way through. Maybe there was more to the structure. Sure is interesting.

And why is it not possible it was on a ship being transported and that's how it got there?

How much does the monolith weigh and were the ships of those time periods able to carry the load?

They have found signs of civilization under the English Channel as well, back in the day when there was a land connection to the continent.

Aside from the monoliths do we know anything about the civilizations that existed 9500 +/- years ago? Have we ever recovered ships from that time period?
