Question for those in multicultural areas

Thanks for the replies, all.

Im familiar with a few other "pidgeon" languages. A Jamaican lady i work with mixes up English with something I can't identify. Its probably the most entertaining of them all.

I've never heard mixes of English and anything else, really. The Menonites speak German pretty much exclusively, and that is really the only other language grouping (outside of Indian)

Yes, in my area, there are lots of Spanish-speakers.

I can switch freely, and am familiar with "Spanglish".

Of the two, I actually prefer Spanish, and when I'm dealing with someone (like our fish guy at the grocery store), I always speak Spanish. It's fun to overhear when Spanish-speakers are shopping together in groups, or with their kids in tow.

I always address the kids in Spanish....

I knew an English kid that grew up in a rougher part of Dallas. His accent tended to sound like a Jamaican than English or anything in America.

Played college ball with him. I think he graduated from Arlington Lamar.

Patois can be hard to grasp...

I used to find myself trying to lip read when I was talking to my friends from Yard (Jamaica)...


But I also do the same with my Northern Irish family...
And they're talking in English, but the accent is just so thick it becomes hard work.
