It's one day at a time...

My favorite was that song Ripples...never come back...they've gone to the other side....
And the whole Trick of the Tale album.

And, as corny (and I do mean corny) as it sounds, I enjoyed the kid's movie Brother Bear in which Phil had several songs and I believe may have done the music for.

But my heart belongs to Peter Gabriel and the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway album.
Peter Gabriel's voice is a wonder.

As is Paul Rodgers (spelling?) voice.

I'm a big fan myself of Phil Collins, so no shame there...sure his latest albums are bad but who cares.
From 76 to 95 he was one of THE best artists around, a great drummer, a great singer, a great composer and an all around cool relaxed guy.
Wherever someone likes him or not, he influenced music a lot. Just to name one, Nine Inch Nails's first album by Trent Reznor seems heavy influenced by Phil's great early 80's albums.

I too was influenced by him, I covered one song till now and maybe others later.

I love what he did with Genesis too! In fact, I don't mind saying that he was technically much better than Peter Gabriel. Peter was ok but I just can't stand his horrible live singing. The music in the general went from progressive to pop, Duke, Abacab and Genesis we're great in between albums and, other than a couple songs, Invisible Touch and We can't Dance went really more into pop. Genesis continued for one album after Phil left, replaced by Ray Wilson who had a really cool voice but just didn't have the range of Phil and all songs had to be taken a couple steps down which ruined the energy...anyway, Calling All Stations was a pretty good album.

Leaving Genesis was actually good for Peter Gabriel in my opinion! He sang much better afterwards and he did some hella good songs in the 70's 80's like Solsbury hill, Red Rain, Sledge Hammer, Your Eyes and others.

I think you over-praise the old boy a bit. He is certainly a very good drummer, with an interesting trademark sound, and a good singer, too; he hits the notes, though he hasn't much emotional range.

He has some standing as a drummer. I saw him once, heavily bearded and semi-incognito, playing drums behind the late John Martyn at a small hall in Surrey, England. I think Tony Levin was on bass. Martyn and Collins were both drunk (not sure about Levin) but a fine time was had by all.

His real drawback, apart from the bourgeois stage-school persona, is that he looks like an elephant seal with a nylon stocking over its head, on its way to a bank robbery.
