Antibiotics - 2000 years old

A bio -anthropologist has found a wast amount of tetracycline in mummies from Nubia. The patent for antibiotics was officially patented 1950s.

The Nubian drank it as beer ranging from 2 years. The source are seeds located buried in the earth, which was infected by a Bacteria like mold called streptomyces which produces tetracycline to kill other bacterials.

Nubian mummies studied in the 1990s were found to contain significant levels of tetracycline; the beer brewed at the time could have been the source.[21] Tetracycline sparked the development of many chemically altered antibiotics, so has proved to be one of the most important discoveries made in the field of antibiotics.

Just from searching for a few sources it certainly seems they had some degree of awareness of what they were doing which makes this story a whole lot more fascinating for me.
