Former Baltimore cop's tweetstorm reveals examples of police misconduct and corruption

Perhaps... just maybe this will start the flood gates of confessionals that will bring U.S. police back into the fold of humanity... and perhaps the elitist, paranoid government itself will be next.

It is so obviously a broken, abused social contract that needs restructuring.

Is it a big surprise that the ill conceived drug laws and anti terrorist insanity have given most of the police an "us vs them" outlook? We have slipped into a police state, despite many pundits warning us loudly and pervasively about exactly that.

Our tenuous, institutionalized, precious, partial 'freedom' is a rare, recent thing in human society... and there has been, and will always be, authoritarian, elitist backlash against it.

I agree. But if you recall another thread, there was a cop who DID in fact expose these things while he was on the force, and was basically harassed by the other cops so that he had to leave town and the state because he feared retaliation.

True, this guy is not absolved from anything, but at least he did come out.

There was another cop who after spending years trying to change things internally with no progress, snapped and was burned alive on national television as a warning to others.

Just Google Dorner. What made him snap was rampant corruption in the LAPD once he realized he could do nothing to fix it.

He does seem to be open about the fact that although he didn't take part in these actions, he was a complicit bystander and has show remorse for that and is trying to put things right.

If you look at his tweets he is showing great support for black and gay rights after coming from a job where they were often the ones targeted the most.

I have a lot of respect for his honesty and attitude to his own guilty role in the actions he has highlighted.

Sometimes it's kind of hard to stand up when you're in the midst, as is evident of the Baltimore cop, Joe Crystal, who *did* and was then shunned by the department, and essentially harassed (and feared for his life so much) that he had to leave the damned state.
