I just don't know what to say about this horrific murder. I am just heartbroken.
I don't really have anything to add to this thread, I just needed to express it.

Hey Doc,
Doesn't the fact that he fled afterward, driving 4 hrs away indicate he did know what he did was wrong. Therefore, his ability to claim an insanity defense is diminished here? Not only that, but do psychotics know what they did was wrong and act like this? I'm pretty sure that sociopaths do not, as they do not have any empathy toward their victims. BUt them, I'm not a trained medical professional.

And as usual you guys will bury your heads in the sand and deny that the US has a massive gun problme.
Very sad.
Problem is not one of those poor victims was carrying because a church is supposed to be a safe haven. If someone had a CCW permit, they could've have nipped the situation in the bud before nine people were shot and killed. Yes, that is a massive gun problem where only the crazies are the ones shooting people.

I think you are correct in that forethought, planning, and fleeing eliminates the insanity defense or at least makes it very hard to justify. The insanity plea is predicated that they did not actually know what they were doing and the above behavior indicates that he did indeed know what he was doing.
